This instruction sheet references service manual information. A service manual for your model motorcycle is required for this installation and is available from a Harley-Davidson dealer.
1. Remove the seat.
To prevent accidental vehicle start-up, which could cause death or serious injury, disconnect negative (-) battery cable before proceeding. (00048a)
2. Refer to the service manual and disconnect the battery, negative (-) cable first.
3. Refer to the service manual. Raise and support the motorcycle with the rear wheels lifted off the floor.
4. Refer to the service manual. See Figure 1. Remove the lug nuts (1) and the tire and wheel assembly (5) from the motorcycle.
5. Remove the lockscrew (2) and washer (3) from the center cap (4) assembly. Discard lockscrew, washer and center cap assembly.

Any time a rear wheel is removed and installed, the lug nut torque must be checked within 500-1000 mi (805-1610 km).
7. Using the palm of your hand, press the new wheel center cover into the center hole of the wheel until it seats and latches to the wheel.
8. Repeat Steps 4-7 for the opposite wheel.
9. Lower the motorcycle and remove the support.
10. Connect battery negative cable. Tighten screw following the instructions in the service manual.
After installing seat, pull upward on seat to be sure it is locked in position. While riding, a loose seat can shift causing loss of control, which could result in death or serious injury. (00070b)
