See Figure 1. The RESS DIAGNOSTIC HARNESS (Part Number:HD-48650-RESS) is used to allow for Rechargeable Energy Storage System (RESS) connectivity with or without the vehicle.

Operation
DIGITAL TECHNICIAN II (Part Number:HD-48650) is required.
WARNINGRider and passenger safety depend upon the proper use of this tool. Use the appropriate service manual procedures. If the procedure is not within your capabilities and/or you do not have the proper tools, have a Harley-Davidson dealer perform the installation. Improper service and/or tools could result in death or serious injury. (08805a)
PREPARE
NOTE
If the RESS is removed from the vehicle go to INSTALL.
| 1. | Place vehicle upright on a level surface or suitable lift if available. | |
| 2. | Remove battery and battery box. See service manual. | |
| 3. | Remove right side rider foot peg assembly. See service manual. | |
| 4. | Remove right side primary cover. See service manual. |
REMOVE
| 1. | See Figure 2 and Figure 3. Disconnect connector (1). a. Using a hook pick, squeeze tabs on side of connector. b. Disconnect connector from Battery Disconnect Unit (BDU) Disconnect. |
INSTALL
| 1. | Install RESS Diagnostic Harness: b. Connect Data Link Connector (DLC) end of RESS Diagnostic Harness to Techlink 3 and included power adapter. Special Tool: TECHLINK 3 (HD-48650-TL3) |

COMPLETE
| 1. | Disconnect Techlink 3 and included power adapter. | |
| 2. | Disconnect RESS Diagnostic Harness. | |
| 3. | Connect connector to BDU Disconnect. | |
| 4. | Install right side primary cover. See service manual. | |
| 5. | Install right side rider foot peg assembly. See service manual. | |
| 6. | Install battery box and battery. See service manual. |
