1. | Disconnect the battery cables, negative cable first. |

2. | See Figure 1. Remove and save the two screws (1) fastening the voltage-regulator bracket (2) to the motorcycle chassis. For installation, note the ground wire connection (3) on one of the screws. Note the ground wire connection to the indicated screw for installation. | |||||||||||||
3. | See Figure 1. Keep the ground wire in position and place the oil-cover mounting bracket (4) over the voltage-regulator mounting holes on the motorcycle chassis. | |||||||||||||
4. | Fasten the voltage-regulator bracket over the oil-cover mounting bracket as shown. Be sure to fasten the ground wire removed in step 2 to the location from which it was removed. Tighten the screws to 7.9–11.3 N·m (70–100 in-lbs). |

5. | See Figure 2. Remove and discard the screw fastening the crank-position sensor (1) to the engine. | |||||||||||||
6. | Fasten the crank-position sensor to the engine using the oil-filter-cover mounting stud (2) and wave washer (3) provided. Torque the stud to 10.2–13.6 N·m (90–120 in-lbs). |

7. | See Figure 3. Loosely fasten the left-side filter cover (1) to the stud using the nylon washer (2), wave washer (3), and acorn nut (4) as shown. Locate the crank-position sensor wire (5) under the recess in the side cover. |

The oil-filter cover must be removed to change the oil filter. The oil filter cover bracket and crank-position-sensor stud do not need to be removed. | |||||||||||||
