If the procedure is not within your capabilities or you do not have the correct tools, have a Harley-Davidson dealer perform the installation. NOTE
This instruction sheet references Service Manual information. A Service Manual for your model motorcycle is required for this installation and is available from a Harley-Davidson Dealer.
INSTALLATION
| 1. | Refer to the Service Manual and follow the instructions given to remove the left-side saddlebag. | |||||||||||||
| 2. | See Figure 1. Obtain the antenna bracket (5) from the kit. | |||||||||||||
| 3. | Mount the antenna bracket to the left-side saddlebag rear support bracket (1). In the upper hole (2), use a 5/16-18 x 5/8 in. in. screw and lockwasher from the kit. If NO saddlebag guard (4), use a 5/16-18 x 5/8 in. screw and lockwasher from the kit to attach the antenna bracket to the lower hole (3) in the support bracket. If a saddlebag guard (4) is mounted, remove and discard the original upper rear guard mounting screw. Use the 5/16-18 x 7/8 in. screw and lockwasher from the kit to attach the antenna bracket and guard at the lower hole (3) in the support bracket. | |||||||||||||
| 4. | Tighten the mounting screws to 19 ft-lbs (26 Nm). | |||||||||||||
| 5. | See Figure 2. Thread the antenna mast assembly (1) onto the antenna base (2), and use a 2 mm hex key to securely tighten the set screw at the bottom of the mast assembly to hold it in place. | |||||||||||||
| 6. | Thread one of the 1/2-20 nuts (4) from the kit onto the antenna base assembly. Place the large internal tooth lockwasher (5) on the threads of the antenna base and insert the antenna base through the hole in the antenna mounting bracket. | |||||||||||||
| 7. | Install the second 1/2-20 nut on the antenna base threads. Place a wrench on the upper nut and tighten the lower nut to 40 in-lbs (4.5 Nm). NOTE The antenna cable is attached to the frame member at the factory to protect it from damage until it is connected to the antenna. | |||||||||||||
| 8. | Remove the left-side cover and locate the coiled or bundled antenna cable (A) (attached to the frame member with a cable strap). | |||||||||||||
| 9. | Refer to the Service Manual and follow the instructions given to remove the maxi-fuse. | |||||||||||||
| 10. | Cut the cable strap holding the antenna cable. | |||||||||||||
| 11. | Route the antenna cable rearward to the front luggage rack mount, then along the inside of the luggage rack and down the saddlebag rear support bracket. | |||||||||||||
| 12. | Plug the antenna cable connector into the antenna base. | |||||||||||||
| 13. | Tighten the knurled nut to secure the connector to the antenna base. |

| 14. | Fasten the antenna cable to the saddlebag rear support bracket at the rectangular hole (see Figure 1 , item 6) with a cable strap (10) from the kit. | |||||||||||||
| 15. | Use a second cable strap to tie the cable to the frame rail, near the suspension air lines, underneath the chrome cover. DO NOT tie the cable to the air lines. | |||||||||||||
| 16. | Remove the outer fairing and windshield. Refer to OUTER FAIRING/ WINDSHIELD REMOVAL in the Service Manual. | |||||||||||||
| 17. | Locate the front end of the antenna cable (attached to the main harness with tape). Cut the tape holding the cable. | |||||||||||||
| 18. | Route the antenna cable over to the radio. | |||||||||||||
| 19. | Plug the cable connector into the back of the radio. | |||||||||||||
| 20. | Tighten the knurled nut to secure the connector. | |||||||||||||
| 21. | Use tie straps from the kit to fasten the antenna cable to the existing harnesses inside the fairing. NOTE To prevent possible damage to the sound system, verify that the Ignition/ Light Key Switch is in the OFF position before re-installing the maxi-fuse. | |||||||||||||
| 22. | Verify that the Ignition/ Light Key Switch is in the OFF position. Refer to the Service Manual and follow the instructions given to re-install the maxi-fuse. | |||||||||||||
| 23. | Test the radio for proper operation. | |||||||||||||
| 24. | Re-install the outer fairing and windshield. See OUTER FAIRING/ WINDSHIELD INSTALLATION in the Service Manual. |
