1. | Remove and discard grabstrap and hardware. See note below. | |||||
2. | Remove existing seat from motorcycle following the instructions in the appropriate Service Manual. Retain all hardware. NOTE On FX models: The seat must be removed prior to removing grabstrap. On FL models: Remove grabstrap prior to removing seat. | |||||
3. | See Figure 1. Remove screw and washer (1) from each side of fender and support. | |||||
4. | Remove and retain the rear seat mounting bracket and all hardware from the back of the original seat. NOTE On FLSTS models: Use bracket and stock fasteners supplied in kit. | |||||
5. | See Figure 10 and Table 1. Install the rear stock seat bracket onto the new seat (1) using stock hardware. | |||||
6. | See Figure 2. Remove threaded inserts or black plastic plugs (1) from frame tube. | |||||
7. | See Figure 10. Install new seat (1), ensuring the bracket on front of seat fully engages into seat mounting tab on frame. Attach the seat to the side of the motorcycle with the two screws (3) and lockwashers (4) provided in the kit. Attach back of seat to fender with stock hardware. For FLSTS models: Secure rear seat bracket with screw (7). |

9. | See Figure 3. Lift up the hook and loop flap on top of seat to install backrest. Reach inside and push on tab located with seat as shown. Insert backrest and press gently until it snaps into place. |
1. | See Figure 4. The adjustment handle is used to move the backrest pad into the forward and rearward positions. The handle is located on the left side of the seat. | |
2. | See Figure 5 and Figure 6. To adjust the backrest pad forward or rearward, pull the handle. Leaning back against the backrest pad will help adjust it rearward. Keeping your weight off of the backrest pad while pulling on the handle will cause the backrest to come to its full forward position. Releasing the handle will lock the backrest into place. | |
3. | See Figure 7 and Figure 8. To adjust the backrest pad up and down, squeeze backrest pad in approximate location shown. Move the backrest up or down into the desired position while squeezing pad, then release when the pad is in the desired position. | |
