2 | Shock absorber | 54591-94 |
1 | Shock absorber adjustment wrench | 94448-82B |
1. | See Figure 1. Place washer (6) on bolt (4 or 5) and coat bolt threads with LOCTITE 243 (blue). Coat shoulder of bolt with Anti-Seize.
2. | Insert bolt (4 or 5) through shock absorber (3 or 7) end. Pivot shock absorber to align front bolt (4) with tapped hole in frame bracket or rear bolt (5) with swing arm (2). Tighten bolt only enough to support the shock absorber and still allow shock to pivot when installing the second bolt.
3. | Tighten both bolts (4 and 5) to 156–176 N·m (115–130 ft-lbs).
4. | Repeat Steps 1 through 3 for the other shock absorber.
5. | Adjust both shock absorber springs equally (see Adjustment section). |
1. | Make a mark on the adjuster plate of each shock with a grease pencil.
2. | Loosen the locknuts.
3. | Use the spanner wrench from the kit to rotate shock absorber adjuster plates to extend or compress shock absorber springs. Turning the adjuster plate OUT toward the locknut, increases spring pre-load and allows a heavier load. Turning the adjuster plate IN away from the locknut, decrease spring pre-load and allows a lighter load.
![]() Adjust both shock absorbers equally. Improper adjustment can adversely affect stability and handling, which could result in death or serious injury. (00036b)
4. | Both adjuster plates must be turned to the same position as determined by the marks.
