All Service Parts are listed above. Service Kit Part Number 53769-98 includes one short lid trim piece and one long lid trim piece. No hardware is included in the Service Kit.
NOTE
On FLHRC models, the saddlebag leather should be completely dry before installation of trim pieces.
Saddlebag lid trim pieces can be attached to the Road King saddlebags in any desired position. The instructions below identify the suggested positioning.
INSTALLATION
See Figure 1 and Figure 2. On leather saddlebags, place large piece approximately 2 in. (50.8 mm) from the inside edge of the saddlebag lid as shown. On fiberglass saddlebags, place large piece approximately 1.5 in. (38.1 mm) from the inside edge of the saddlebag lid.
Place short piece approximately 1-1/2 in. (38.1 mm) from the edge of the long piece as shown.
On fiberglass saddlebags, the trim strips should be centered front to back on the saddlebag lid. On leather
saddlebags, the trim strips should be centered front to back relative to the exposed hinge rivets as shown in Figure 2.
Determine at this point if this is the position desired. If not, reposition pieces until desired locations are obtained.
Hold trim piece tight against saddlebag lid by pressing down on both ends at the same time. Have someone else mark the center of each hole, three per trim piece.
On Leather Saddlebags: From the top side of the saddlebag lid (leather side) drill a small hole (1/32 inch or smaller) at the center of each hole marked in Step 4. Open the saddlebag lid. From the inside of the saddlebag lid, (plastic side), use a slow speed drill and drill an 11/64 inch hole at each of the previously drilled locations. It is recommended that a block of wood be held against each hole on the top side of the saddlebag lid (leather side) so that the leather is held firmly against the plastic while drilling holes from the plastic side. On Fiberglass Saddlebags: Drill an 11/64 inch hole at the center of each hole marked in Step 4.
Install the saddlebag lid trim pieces using the supplied hardware. Begin by inserting the hardware into the center hole first. Do not tighten the nuts until all three screws and nuts have been installed.
Repeat steps 1-6 on the opposite side saddlebag lid.
