This kit replaces the original equipment oil tank vent hose. This kit fits all 2004 Sportster models.
Kit Contents
See Figure 6 and Table 1.
WARNING
Rider and passenger safety depend upon the correct installation of this kit. Use the appropriate service manual procedures. If the procedure is not within your capabilities or you do not have the correct tools, have a Harley-Davidson dealer perform the installation. Improper installation of this kit could result in death or serious injury. (00333b)
NOTE
This instruction sheet references Service Manual information. A Service Manual for your model motorcycle is required for this installation and is available from a Harley-Davidson Dealer.
REMOVAL
NOTE
It is not necessary to disassemble or remove rear brake caliper in order to remove rear wheel.
  1. Elevate motorcycle and remove rear wheel.
  2. See the Service Manual. Remove the following items:
    1. right side cover
    2. rear muffler
    3. rear exhaust pipe assembly
    4. sprocket cover
    5. oil tank vent hose (discard hose and clamps)
INSTALLATION
1. See Figure 1. Slide vent hose (1) through hose clamp (2). Slide clamp (3) on end of vent hose.
2. Push vent hose down on oil vent hose fitting (4) and secure with clamp.

3. See Figure 2 and Figure 3. Route vent tube assembly (3) between battery tray and oil tank, outboard of negative battery cable (2) and around TSM (5).
NOTE
It will be necessary to push rear fender extension out of the way slightly to gain access to oil tank vent fitting.
4. Push short hose onto vent hose fitting on oil tank (1) and secure with clamp (4).
5. See Figure 4. Connect vent hose (2) to vent tube assembly (1). Push hose fully onto tube up to ridge (3).
6. See Figure 5. Press vent hose (1) into top slot of hose clip (2).

7. See the Service Manual. Install the following items:
a. sprocket cover
b. rear exhaust pipe assembly
c. rear muffler
d. right side cover
e. rear wheel
NOTE
If rear brake caliper was disassembled or removed, see Chapter 2 of the Sportster Models Service Manual for the proper assembly and installation procedure.
