INSTALLATION
WARNING
To prevent accidental vehicle start-up, which could cause death or serious injury, disconnect battery cables (negative (-) cable first) before proceeding. (00307a)
1. Refer to the applicable Service Manual for instructions to remove the regulator.
2. If the regulator output lead was connected to the "AUX" (silver colored) terminal, measure the length of the regulator output lead and cut the output lead on the replacement regulator to the same length.
3. If the regulator output lead was not connected to the "AUX" (silver colored) terminal, route regulator output lead to "AUX" terminal, and cut output lead to correct length for making the connection at the "AUX" terminal.
4. Terminate output lead on replacement regulator with ring terminal from kit.
5. Install the replacement regulator following procedure in applicable Service Manual. Connect the ring terminal to the circuit breaker "AUX" (silver colored) terminal.
6. Using an Ohmmeter, verify the ground of the regulator to the vehicle's chassis.
NOTE
The output lead of this regulator must be connected to the "AUX", silver colored terminal on the Main (30 amp) circuit breaker. The original regulator may have been connected to the "BAT", copper colored terminal; to provide protection from reversed battery leads, this regulator must be connected to the "AUX" terminal.
NOTE
Some regulators may be equipped with a ground wire attached to the bottom of the regulator case. If ground wire is present, remove it and install it on the new regulator.
7. Start motorcycle using a Voltmeter at the battery, then verify the charging voltage is correct as specified in the appropriate Service Manual.
