GENERAL
Kit Number
56870-06
Models
This kit fits all Harley-Davidson models that have large or medium Genuine Harley-Davidson Accessory hand grips with removable end caps. This kit is not compatible with models equipped with heated hand grips.
For models equipped with internally wired handlebars, it may be necessary to remove the handlebars and all of the electrical wiring inside to be installed later with the wiring from the kit.
Some models may require drilling holes in the handlebars. Refer to "Install Y-Harness and Route Cable Handlebar - Other Touring Models" in this Instruction Sheet.
Additional Parts Required
WARNING
Rider and passenger safety depend upon the correct installation of this kit. Use the appropriate service manual procedures. If the procedure is not within your capabilities or you do not have the correct tools, have a Harley-Davidson dealer perform the installation. Improper installation of this kit could result in death or serious injury. (00333b)
NOTE
This instruction sheet references Service Manual information. A Service Manual for your model motorcycle is required for this installation and is available from a Harley-Davidson dealer.
NOTICE
It is possible to overload the vehicle's charging system by adding too many electrical accessories. If the combined electrical accessories operating at any one time consume more electrical current than the vehicle's charging system can produce, the electrical consumption can discharge the battery and cause damage to the vehicle's electrical system. (00211d)
Kit Contents
NOTE
Place a clean shop towel or a protective blanket over the equipment to avoid scratching painted surfaces when installing this kit.
This kit requires up to 60 mA additional current from the electrical system.
WARNING
When installing any electrical accessory, be certain not to exceed the maximum amperage rating of the fuse or circuit breaker protecting the affected circuit being modified. Exceeding the maximum amperage can lead to electrical failures, which could result in death or serious injury. (00310a)
REMOVAL
Prepare for Service
Touring Models: Remove left side saddlebag, left side cover, and maxi-fuse. Refer to SADDLEBAG and MAXI-FUSE in Service Manual.
