Models
This kit fits 2006 and later Dyna FXDWG model motorcycles, including those equipped with the following:
  • Detachable Sideplate
  • Saddlebags
Additional Parts Required
Motorcycles equipped with laced wheels also require inner tube (40502-06) and tire rim flap (43101-06) for proper installation.
Proper installation of this kit requires the use of Loctite® 243 (blue) (99642-97).
WARNING
Dealer installation is required. Proper installation of this kit requires specific alignment procedures to ensure proper tire clearance. Tire contact with chassis components can lead to tire failure, which could result in death or serious injury. (00428c)
NOTE
This instruction sheet references Service Manual information. A Service Manual for your model motorcycle is required for this installation.

9. See Figure 2. Locate the four lock nuts (1) hidden by the fender strut covers. Remove two stud plates (5), four nuts (1) and license plate bracket. Save nuts for re-installation.
10. Obtain the template page from the kit and cut the two templates out from the page.
11. See Figure 3. Use the stock stud plate (5) to locate the template, as shown. Tape the two templates (3) to the license plate bracket (1), lining up the mounting holes of the bracket with the hole indicators on the template, as shown. Mark the locations of the holes to be drilled (2), then use a blade to trace the cut lines (4) of the template onto the bracket.
12. Drill four 7/32 in. holes through the bracket at the marked locations.
13. Using a suitable cutting tool, cut the bracket along the scribed lines.
NOTE
When countersinking the hole be careful not to overbore the hole.

14. Using an 82° single flute countersink bit, counter sink the four drilled holes 1/8 in. deep, being careful not overbore the hole when countersinking.
15. See Figure 4. Install two front stud plates (1) to the license plate bracket using four screws (2) and locknuts (3). Tighten lock nuts to 2.3 N·m (20 in-lbs).
NOTE
See Figure 6 for Steps 16-19.
16. Install license plate bracket with front stud plates (3) into inner fender and insert rear stud plates (1) as shown.
17. Apply 2-3 drops of Loctite 243 (blue) to the button head screw (2). Install rear stud plate (1), then loosely install turn signal and mount (6) and button head screw (2). Repeat Steps 16 and 17 for opposite side.
NOTE
See Figure 5. Keep the turn signal wire flat to the fender.
18. Route the turn signal wire (4) flat between the license bracket and fender, towards the rear of the motorcycle as shown. Do not route the turn signal wire under the rear stud plate (1). Repeat for opposite side.
19. Install four nuts (5) removed in Step 9 to the four studs, between the fender strut and fender strut cover. Tighten to 5.4 N·m (48 in-lbs). Do not overtighten the nuts.
20. See Figure 2. Tighten screws (2) to 25 N·m (18 ft-lbs). Repeat for opposite side.
21. See Figure 6. Tighten button head screw (2) to 19 N·m (14 ft-lbs). Repeat for opposite side.
22. Refer to the appropriate Service Manual and remove the rear tire from the wheel and replace with the tire from the kit. Also, inspect the tire, check radial and lateral runout, and balance the wheel.
23. See the appropriate Service Manual. Install the rear wheel and verify axle/swing arm alignment and belt deflection.
Clearance Check
  1. Remove upper shock bolts and spacers from both sides of the motorcycles.
  2. Using the jack, lower the motorcycle until the rear fender struts almost rest on the belt guard.
  3. Obtain a 24 in. length of straight, cold drawn, 3/16 in. round bar or square bar to use as a gauge.
  4. See Figure 7. Lay gauge across the tire's radial ridge (2) and check that the gauge (1) can pass through the fender without touching (See Figure 6 ) any of the hardware or brackets in the gauge clearance area (8).
  5. If gauge passes gauge clearance area (8), proceed to the Return Motorcycle to Service section below. If gauge contacts gauge clearance area (8), perform the Horizontal Adjustment procedure below.

Horizontal Adjustment
The following adjustment procedure is meant to center the tire between the rear fender brackets. It requires two people.
1. See the appropriate Service Manual and perform the Vehicle Alignment procedure and verify rear wheel to front wheel parallelism.
2. See Figure 10. Loosen the two front (5) and two rear (1) mount bolts.

3. See Figure 8. Using a suitable tool wrapped in a clean, soft cloth, between the swingarm and frame, as indicated by the arrow, move the rear wheel to the left or right, as necessary, to provide clearance for the gauge. Tighten the rear rubber mount bolts while maintaining pressure on the tool. Tighten bolts to 30–37 N·m (22–27 ft-lbs).

4. See Figure 9. Using a suitable tool wrapped in a clean, soft cloth, between the front mount and frame (1), move the rear wheel to the left or right, as necessary, to provide clearance for the gauge. Tighten the front mount bolts while maintaining pressure on the tool. Tighten bolts to 30–37 N·m (22–27 ft-lbs).
5. Repeat Clearance Check procedure. If further adjustment is necessary, proceed with the following step. If further adjustment is not necessary, proceed to RETURN MOTORCYCLE TO SERVICE section.
6. See Figure 10. Loosen the two top bolts (3) of the T-bracket (4).
7. See Figure 9. Use a suitable tool between the frame and T-bracket (2). Move the rear wheel to the left or right, as necessary, to provide clearance for the gauge. Tighten the T-bracket bolts while maintaining pressure on the tool. Tighten bolts to 34–41 N·m (25–30 ft-lbs).
8. Repeat Clearance Check procedure.
Return Motorcycle to Service
1. Apply 2-3 drops of Loctite 243 (blue) to the upper shock bolts. Install upper shock bolts and spacers. Tighten upper shock bolts to 102–115 N·m (75–85 ft-lbs).
2. Connect battery negative (-) cable.
3. See Figure 1. Connect turn signals connectors (3 and 5), tail light connector (1), and power harness connector (2).
4. Install tail light to rear fender using two tail light mounting screws removed previously.
WARNING
Be sure that all lights and switches operate properly before operating motorcycle. Low visibility of rider can result in death or serious injury. (00316a)
5. Verify turn signal, brake and tail light operation.
6. See the appropriate Service Manual and perform the Vehicle Alignment procedure and verify rear wheel to front wheel parallelism.
7. Verify that belt and belt guard are clear of the rear tire.
8. To prevent excessive vibration, check for loose hardware and re-tighten as necessary.
