Models
Kit 45149-99B (chrome) is designed to be installed on the rear brake master cylinder on 1999 to 2004 Touring and 2000 and later Softail® models.
Kit 45149-99B (black) and 45078-96B (chrome) are designed to be installed on the front brake master cylinder on all 1996 to 2004 Touring, 1996 to 2003 XL, and 1996 and later Dyna, Softail, and VRSC models.
INSTALLATION
NOTICE
Do not allow dirt or debris to enter the master cylinder reservoir. Dirt or debris in the reservoir can cause improper operation and equipment damage. (00205c)
| 1. | Clean rear master cylinder cover, then remove two screws that hold the cover in place. | |
| 2. | See Figure 1. Replace the original cover, sight glass and gasket with new cover (2), sight glass (4) and gasket (3). NOTE Check your owner's manual for the correct type of brake fluid for your year and model motorcycle. NOTE The cover is labled for D.O.T. 5 SILICONE BRAKE FLUID. Install this cover on reservoirs filled only with D.O.T. 5 SILICONE BRAKE FLUID. Do not mix grades of brake fluid, as they are not compatible and could cause equipment damage. | |
 CAUTIONDirect contact of DOT 5 brake fluid with eyes can cause eye irritation, swelling, and redness. Avoid eye contact. In case of eye contact flush with large amounts of water and get medical attention. Swallowing large amounts of DOT 5 brake fluid can cause digestive discomfort. If swallowed, obtain medical attention. Use in well ventilated area. KEEP OUT OF REACH OF CHILDREN. (00144b) | ||
| 3. | Install the polished stainless steel cover screws (1) and tighten screws to 0.7–0.9 N·m (6–8 in-lbs). |
