This kit fits all 1996 and later FXST and FLST; 1994-1/2 and later FLHR; 1993 and later FXDWG; and 2002 and later FXDP.
A keyed-to-match ignition switch requires that you provide your motorcycle's four-digit key code to your Harley-Davidson dealer when ordering this kit. The key code for new motorcycles is located on a tag attached to the keys, and is also stamped on stock keys. All key codes are six characters long, the last two of every code being "HD."

INSTALLATION
WARNING
To prevent accidental vehicle start-up, which could cause death or serious injury, disconnect battery cables (negative (-) cable first) before proceeding. (00307a)
WARNING
Disconnect negative (-) battery cable first. If positive (+) cable should contact ground with negative (-) cable connected, the resulting sparks can cause a battery explosion, which could result in death or serious injury. (00049a)
1. See the Service Manual. Disconnect the cables from the battery, negative cable first.
2. See the Service Manual. Remove the console.
3. Place a clean cloth on the gas tank to protect the painted finish. Turn the console onto its side, on the cloth on the gas tank, to access the components under the console.
4. Unplug the connector from the stock ignition switch.
5. Remove the four screws fastening the stock ignition switch to the console.
6. Fasten the new ignition switch to the console using the stock screws removed. Tighten the screws securely.
7. 2002 and earlier models, complete this step before proceeding. For 2003 and later models, go to step 8.
a. See Figure 1. Note the wire-color locations relative to the A, B, and C terminal labels on the stock ignition switch connector.
b. See the Service Manual. Remove the wires and terminals from the stock ignition switch connector.
c. Insert the wires and terminals into the new connector in the same terminal locations they were removed.

8. See Figure 1. Fasten the wire connector to the new ignition switch. Note that the wire connector is keyed to fit on the switch in one way only.
9. Install the console.
WARNING
Connect positive (+) battery cable first. If positive (+) cable should contact ground with negative (-) cable connected, the resulting sparks can cause a battery explosion, which could result in death or serious injury. (00068a)
10. Connect the battery cables to the battery, positive cable first.
WARNING
After installing seat, pull upward on seat to be sure it is locked in position. While riding, a loose seat can shift causing loss of control, which could result in death or serious injury. (00070b)
11. See the Service Manual. Install the seat.
12. Test the switch.
