| 1. | See Figure 1. Elevate and support vehicle so front wheel clears floor. NOTE See Figure 1. Take care not to damage O-ring (2). |

| 2. | Remove tube cap (1) from top of each fork tube (4). Use caution. Tube caps are under pressure from fork springs. | |||||||||
| 3. | Remove fork drain plugs. Drain fork oil. Replace drain plugs. | |||||||||
| 4. | Remove and discard stock fork springs. NOTE When installing new fork springs, install the tight wound portion of the fork spring to the bottom of the fork slider. NOTE "Profile"™ Low Front Suspension Kit requires more Harley-Davidson type E fork oil than the quantity listed in the Service Manual. | |||||||||
| 5. | After fork spring installation, pour 10.7 oz. (316 ml) of Harley-Davidson type E Fork Oil into each fork side. | |||||||||
| 6. | Re-install tube caps (1). Be careful not to damage O-ring (2). |
| 1. | Raise motorcycle so front wheel is 1-2 in. (25-50 mm) above floor. Securely block vehicle under frame and check to make sure it is stable before removing existing jiffy stand. NOTE Leave the jiffy stand in retracted position during all removal steps. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
Wear safety glasses or goggles when removing or installing spring. Spring tension can cause spring, attached components and/or hand tools to fly out which could result in death or serious injury. (00477c) | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 2. | See Figure 2. Inspect top of stop plate (1). If covered with dirt, wipe dirt off with a shop towel and spray stop plate and mating surface with Loctite anti-seize (Harley-Davidson Part Number 98960-97). | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 3. | Move jiffy stand leg (2) forward and back to "work" anti-seize into mating parts. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 4. | If stop plate (1) is covered with mud/grime, remove bolt (3), lockwasher (4), washer (5), and stop plate (1). | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 5. | Clean stop plate and pivot block mating surface. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 6. | Apply anti-seize lubricant on shaft of jiffy stand leg and pin (7) to lubricate the mating surface between pin and pivot block. Move leg back and forth and downward while applying anti-seize. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 7. | Assemble the stop plate (1) so it engages the flats on the shaft of the jiffy stand leg (2) and secure with washer (5), lockwasher (4), and bolt (3). | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 8. | Tighten bolt (3) to 19 ft-lbs (26Nm). | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 9. | Install the bumper (12) by snapping it onto the frame tube as shown. NOTE Failure to install the bumper may result in scratches to the primary housing. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 10. | Test jiffy stand operation and be certain that the stand rests on the bumper when retracted. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 11. | Remove blocks from under vehicle. |
