Additional Parts Required
NOTE
Installation of this kit and activation of the radio requires the use of a computer-based diagnostic package called DIGITAL TECHNICIAN. This kit MUST be installed by a factory-trained technician at a Harley-Davidson Dealer.
Proper installation of this radio also requires installing a Radio Antenna Kit. See the P&A Retail Catalog or the Parts and Accessories section of www.harley-davidson.com (English only) for a list of required parts or accessories for your model.
Electrical Overload
NOTICE
It is possible to overload the vehicle's charging system by adding too many electrical accessories. If the combined electrical accessories operating at any one time consume more electrical current than the vehicle's charging system can produce, the electrical consumption can discharge the battery and cause damage to the vehicle's electrical system. (00211d)
WARNING
When installing any electrical accessory, be certain not to exceed the maximum amperage rating of the fuse or circuit breaker protecting the affected circuit being modified. Exceeding the maximum amperage can lead to electrical failures, which could result in death or serious injury. (00310a)
The AM/FM Radio requires up to 11 Amps additional current from the electrical system.
Kit Contents
See Figure 3 and Table 1.
INSTALLATION
Remove Existing Equipment
WARNING
To prevent accidental vehicle start-up, which could cause death or serious injury, remove main fuse before proceeding. (00251b)
1. Refer to the service manual and follow the instructions given to remove the maxi-fuse.
2. Remove outer fairing and windshield. Refer to OUTER FAIRING/WINDSHIELD REMOVAL in service manual.

3. See Figure 1. Using a long shank ball end socket (Snap-on® FABL6E or equivalent), remove the four socket head screws (1) to release the storage box from the left and right radio support brackets (2). Use the oblong holes in the fairing brackets to access the screws.
Install Radio
  1. Pull the storage box forward to remove the box from the opening in the inner fairing. Discard the storage box.
  2. Position the radio (3) between the radio support brackets and push it into the opening in the inner fairing.
  3. Align the threaded inserts in the sides of the radio with the oblong holes in the left and right radio support brackets.
  4. Starting at the rear, install the four socket head screws previously removed. Alternately tighten the screws to 35-45 in-lbs (4.0-5.1 Nm).
  5. Plug the 23-place radio socket housing [27A] (part of the interconnect harness already installed on the vehicle) into the back of the radio.
  6. Remove three T25 TORX® screws that hold the speaker opening cover on one end of the fairing. Discard the cover and screws.
Install Speakers
1. See Figure 3. If the speaker (3) and adapter (4) are not assembled, or are assembled incorrectly, orient the speaker on the adapter and grille assembly so the speaker spade contacts are toward the side of the adapter with the widest edge. Snap the speaker into the adapter using finger pressure only.
NOTE
If the speaker grille is loose, apply 3M-847 adhesive (99618-60) to the outer edge of the adapter ring. Install the grille on the adhesive.
2. With the widest edge of the adapter at the top, align the holes in the speaker and adapter assembly with those in the inner fairing.
3. Install two long screws (6) from the kit to secure the top of the speaker and adapter assembly to the inner fairing.
NOTE
The screw hole on the lower inboard side is not used.
NOTICE
Do not attempt to install a longer screw in the lower holes in the speaker and adaptor assembly. A longer screw will puncture the face of the inner fairing. (00460d)
4. Capturing the fairing support brace, install a short screw (5) in the lower outboard hole.
5. Using a T25 TORX drive head, tighten the lower speaker screw to 22-28 in-lbs (2.5-3.2 Nm). Tighten the two upper speaker screws to 35-50 in-lbs (4.0-5.7 Nm).
6. Repeat speaker installation steps on opposite side of fairing.
7. Locate the socket terminals for the front speaker connections, which are part of the interconnect harness (see Figure 2 ) already installed on the vehicle. Two terminals will be found looped back and taped to the harness near each of the speakers. The left-side terminals have white/ orange and light-green/ white wires. Right-side wires are gray/red and light-green/black.
8. Remove the tape to free the wires. Install the socket terminals onto the speaker spade contacts. Different size spade contacts prevent improper assembly.

Install Antenna
  1. Install Radio Antenna following the instructions in that kit.
  2. Use tie straps from the kit to fasten the antenna cable to the existing harnesses inside the fairing.
Activate Radio
NOTE
To prevent possible damage to the sound system, verify that the Ignition/Light Key Switch is in the OFF position before installing the maxi-fuse.
  1. Verify that the Ignition/Light Key Switch is in the OFF position. Refer to the service manual and follow the instructions given to install the maxi-fuse.
  2. Perform the radio flash update using the DIGITAL TECHNICIAN, following the on-screen prompts to select the region and options being installed.
  3. Test radio for proper operation.
  4. Install outer fairing and windshield. Refer to OUTER FAIRING/WINDSHIELD INSTALLATION in service manual.
