INSTALLATION
WARNING
To prevent accidental vehicle start-up, which could cause death or serious injury, remove main fuse before proceeding. (00251b)
WARNING
To prevent accidental vehicle start-up, which could cause death or serious injury, disconnect battery cables (negative (-) cable first) before proceeding. (00307a)
WARNING
Disconnect negative (-) battery cable first. If positive (+) cable should contact ground with negative (-) cable connected, the resulting sparks can cause a battery explosion, which could result in death or serious injury. (00049a)
1. Refer to your Owner's Manual and follow the instructions given to do the following:
a. Disarm the security system.
b. Remove the left-side cover.
c. Disconnect the Maxi-Fuse.
d. Disconnect the battery cables (negative cable first).
e. Remove the battery from the vehicle.
2. See Figure 1. Locate the siren connector (2) on the main harness, behind the harness shield forward of the battery location. It is covered by a dust cap. Pull the dust cap from the connector, and feed the connector downward and out from behind the shield.

3. Obtain the correct siren harness (3) for your model year vehicle from the kit. Route the three-pin connector (1) of the siren harness from the bottom of the motorcycle, between the primary cover and frame tube. Plug the connector into the siren harness connector (2) on the vehicle main harness.
4. Secure the connectors to the diagnostic harness using a cable strap from the kit.
NOTE
Route the siren harness away from moving parts, sharp edges, hot areas and out of sight as much as possible.

5. See Figure 2. Apply the double-sided foam tape (1) to the siren bracket (2) in the area shown.
6. Remove the paper backing from the tape, and install the siren (3) with the sounder disc aligning with the holes in the bracket. Press the siren into the bracket until the siren is fully seated.
7. See Figure 3. Connect the long lead of the siren harness (2) to the siren (1).

8. See Figure 4. Position the siren and bracket assembly (1) so that the connector (2) is facing toward the left side of the motorcycle. Insert the rear of the assembly over the rear frame crossmember, and slide the assembly to the rear until the front of the bracket clears the front crossmember. Swing the front of the bracket up so that the bracket flange is above the front crossmember. Slide the bracket forward and allow the bracket flanges to rest on the crossmembers.
NOTE
Keep the siren harness away from moving parts, sharp edges, and hot areas, and out of sight as much as possible.
9. Push the harness into the opening, and secure the harness to the frame using cable straps from the kit.

10. See Figure 5. Align the siren bracket mounting holes with the rightmost set of holes in the frame crossmembers. Secure the bracket using the two hex head cap screws and lock nuts from the kit.
WARNING
Connect positive (+) battery cable first. If positive (+) cable should contact ground with negative (-) cable connected, the resulting sparks can cause a battery explosion, which could result in death or serious injury. (00068a)
NOTICE
Do not over-tighten bolts on battery terminals. Use recommended torque values. Over-tightening battery terminal bolts could result in damage to battery terminals. (00216a)
11. Refer to your Owner's Manual and follow the instructions given to do the following:
a. Re-install the battery into the vehicle.
b. Connect the battery cables (positive cable first).
c. Re-connect the Maxi-Fuse.
d. Re-install the left-side cover.
NOTE
The siren may not function properly when first installed. NiMH (Nickel Metal Hydride) rechargeable batteries discharge fairly rapidly when stored. They will lose as much as 1% - 2% of their charge per day, and after a few months of storage at room temperature will be mostly discharged. If stored for a very long period without charging, they may need a few charging cycles to regain their full capacity.
To charge the NiMH battery, operate your motorcycle for a minimum of 4 hours.
SIREN DIAGNOSTICS
  • If the siren is armed and the internal siren battery is dead, shorted, disconnected, or has been charging for a period longer than 24 hours, the siren will respond with three chirps on arming instead of two.
  • The internal siren battery may not charge if the vehicle's charging system is producing less than 12.5 volts.
  • If the siren does not chirp two or three times on a valid arming command from the security system, the siren is either not connected, not working, or the siren wiring was opened or shorted while the siren was disarmed.
  • If the siren enters the self-driven mode where it is powered from the siren internal 9 volt battery, the turn signal lamps may or may not alternately flash. If the security system activates the siren, the turn signal lamps will alternately flash. If the siren has been armed and a security event occurs, and the siren is in self-driven mode, the siren will alarm for 20 to 30 seconds and then turn off for 5 to 10 seconds. This alarm cycle will be repeated ten times if the siren is in the self-driven mode.
BATTERY REPLACEMENT
The siren's internal 9 volt battery is rechargeable and does not need to be replaced on a regular basis. Battery life under normal conditions is approximately three to six years.
NOTE
When battery replacement is needed, only a nickel metal hydride (NiMH) nine-volt battery should be used in the siren.
Use Security System Siren Battery Replacement Kit (H-D Part Number 69018-00). In addition to the 9-volt NiMH battery, this kit contains a replacement battery cover, cover gasket and instructions needed to ensure continued proper operation of the siren.
To Replace the Battery:
  1. Refer to the Owner's Manual and follow the instructions given to disarm the security system.
  2. Remove the siren box from the vehicle. Reference the siren installation procedures for your model in this Instruction Sheet.
  3. Follow the instructions included with the Battery Replacement Kit to remove the battery cover, and remove and replace the battery. Replace the old seal and battery cover with the new items from the kit.
  4. Re-install the siren box into the vehicle.
  5. Dispose of the old NiMH battery in accordance with local regulations.
