This kit fits 2000 and later FLSTC, FLST, FLSTF and 1999 and later FLHR, FLHT, FLHX and FLTR model motorcycles.
WARNINGRider and passenger safety depend upon the correct installation of this kit. Use the appropriate service manual procedures. If the procedure is not within your capabilities or you do not have the correct tools, have a Harley-Davidson dealer perform the installation. Improper installation of this kit could result in death or serious injury. (00333b)
NOTE
This instruction sheet references Service Manual information. A Service Manual for your model motorcycle is required for this installation and is available from a Harley-Davidson Dealer.
NOTE
When performing this installation, be careful not to scratch nearby painted or chrome surfaces.
INSTALLATION
| 1. | Some models may have a rear fender emblem which will interfere with the license plate relocation items. If one is present, carefully remove adhesive backed fender emblem taking care not to scratch painted surfaces. Clean area with isopropyl alcohol to remove adhesive residue. | |||||||||||
| 2. | Remove the license plate and license plate back plate (if equipped) from motorcycle. Save items for future use. | |||||||||||
| CAUTION Always wear proper eye protection when drilling or grinding. Flying debris could cause serious eye injury. (00402e) WARNINGDo not contact tire with drill bit when drilling fender holes. Drill bit contact with tire can lead to premature tire failure, which could result in death or serious injury. (00403f) | ||||||||||||
| 3. | For models equipped with a rear fender tip, proceed to step 7. For models without a rear fender tip proceed to step 4. | |||||||||||
| 4. | Cut out template from sheet supplied in the kit. Carefully punch holes through the three positions indicated on the template. Position the template with the curved surface pointed down. Center the template on the fender, lining the curved lower edge of the template with the trailing edge of the fender. Tape the template into position on the fender. Carefully mark the location of the two mounting holes and wire harness access hole with a centerpunch. | |||||||||||
| 5. | Drill a 1/16 inch (1.5 mm) diameter pilot hole at each mounting hole center-punched location. Drill a 1/8 inch (3.1 mm) diameter pilot hole at wire harness hole location. Remove the template. Carefully drill a 9/32 inch (7.0 mm) diameter hole at each pilot location. Carefully drill a 5/16 inch (7.9 mm) diameter hole at wire harness hole location. | |||||||||||
| 6. | Protect the bare metal edges of the drilled holes with a high quality, chip resistant, air dry enamel touch up paint before proceeding. Allow the paint to dry thoroughly before completing the installation to protect against corrosion damage to the fender. Install grommet in 5/16 inch diameter hole. Skip to step 9. | |||||||||||
| 7. | See Figure 1. Remove rear fender tip (1) from rear fender (2) according to Service Manual instructions. |

| 8. | Carefully drill out the holes in fender (2) used for the fender tip assembly using a 9/32 inch (7.0 mm) diameter twist drill. Coat unprotected metal in freshly drilled holes with high quality, chip resistant, air dry enamel touch up paint. | |||||||||||
| 9. | See Service Parts illustration. Install new lamp assembly (5) on the new license plate bracket (1) with nuts (8) from kit. Ensure that new lamp assembly light lens is facing down toward license plate. | |||||||||||
| 10. | See Figure 2. For models not orginally equipped with a fender tip
assembly, remove the pin terminals from the lamp assembly (5) socket. Mark wire positions in connector before removal. Using the Service Manual instructions, remove both pin terminals noting the socket position for each wire. Feed the two wires through the rubber grommet supplied in the kit. Route wire for lamp assembly through bracket center hole and fender. Install pin terminals into lamp assembly socket. NOTE Remove the amp connector from lamp assembly using the Service Manual procedures for "Amp Multilock Electrical Connectors". |

| 11. | See Service Parts Illustration. For models orginally equipped with a fender tip assembly, Route wire for lamp assembly through bracket center hole and fender. Insert two hex head screws (2) into drilled holes and through new license plate mounting bracket (1) and attach with two flange nuts (3). Torque nuts to 6.8 N·m (60 in-lbs) . | |||||||||||
| 12. | For Softail models, route wire between fender support strut and fender. | |||||||||||
| 13. | For Touring models, use the wire clip under fender and secure lamp wire harness to wire clip. | |||||||||||
| 14. | Verify correct operation of license plate light. | |||||||||||
| 15. | See Figure 3. Remove two phillips screws from lens to release tail lamp assembly (1) from chrome plastic bracket (2) at back of rear fender. Carefully pull tail lamp assembly from bracket. |

| 16. | Rotate bulb socket 1/4 turn in a counterclockwise direction and remove from tail lamp assembly. | |||||||||||
| 17. | See Service Parts Illustration. Insert socket into new tail lamp assembly (5) and rotate 1/4 turn in a clockwise direction. | |||||||||||
| 18. | Orient 4-place Multilock socket so that the release button is at the bottom and insert into pin housing until it "clicks". | |||||||||||
| 19. | Attach license plate and license plate back plate (A) (if equipped) saved earlier to the new bracket with the provided screws. |
