Kit Contents
No service parts are available for the LCD Oil Temperature/ Level Dipstick. However, a Service Kit (Part Number 62984-03), which includes all the replacement seals needed, is available from a Harley-Davidson Dealer.
A replacement CR 2032 battery (Part Number 66373-06) is also available from a Harley-Davidson dealer.
LCD READOUT DIPSTICK INSTALLATION
  1. Remove the original equipment (O.E.) dipstick from the filler neck.
  2. Lightly oil the O-ring around the top of the new LCD dipstick. Orient the dipstick so that the display window is horizontal and readable from left to right, with the Bar and Shield logo to the left (toward the rear of the vehicle). Push the dipstick straight into the filler neck until it seats against the flat rubber seal.
  3. NOTE
Following installation, check for proper seating by gently lifting up on the dipstick display body. The dipstick should be locked in place.
LCD READOUT DIPSTICK USE AND CARE
Removing the Dipstick
  1. The dipstick assembly must be removed from the filler neck to add oil or to service the internal battery.
  2. NOTE
It is important to twist the dipstick in a COUNTER-CLOCKWISE direction WHILE PULLING UP to remove. Twisting in a clockwise direction or not twisting could result in damage to the dipstick.
  3. Carefully twist the dipstick display body counter-clockwise while pulling up to remove the dipstick from the filler neck. The dipstick should remove easily.
Displaying the Oil Temperature and Level
1. See Figure 1. Press and release the rubber button on the front face to display the temperature of the oil in the oil tank in degrees Fahrenheit (°F), and the oil level. The display will automatically shut off after ten seconds.
NOTE
Oil level cannot be accurately measured on a cold engine.
Oil level cannot be accurately measured with the motorcycle upright.
Oil level cannot be accurately measured with the engine running.
NOTICE
Do not overfill oil. Doing so can result in oil carryover to the air cleaner leading to equipment damage and/or equipment malfunction. (00190b)
2. For pre-ride inspection, with the motorcycle resting on the jiffy stand on level ground, the oil level should be as indicated in Figure 1 , display 4 through 8 (bars showing oil level, and "COLD OIL" message followed by flashing oil temperature) when the engine is cold.
3. If the oil level indicates as in display 9 (animated level bars, followed by flashing oil temperature), refer to OIL LEVEL COLD CHECK in your Owner's Manual for proper oil fill of a cold engine. DO NOT ADD OIL to bring the level to the FULL mark on the dipstick of a COLD engine.
4. Ride the motorcycle until the engine is at normal operating temperature. With the motorcycle resting on the jiffy stand on level ground, turn the engine off.
5. Bubbles in the oil may cause inaccurate readings. Wait two minutes for the oil to settle and any bubbles to come to the surface.
6. Press and release the rubber button on the front face to display the temperature and level of the oil in the oil tank. The oil level should be as shown in Figure 1 , display 11, 12, 13 or 14.
7. If the oil level indicates as shown in display 10, 15 or 16, refer to OIL LEVEL HOT CHECK in your Owner's Manual for proper oil fill procedure.
Changing the Display Mode
  1. The display can be changed to read in degrees Centigrade (°C) by pressing and holding the button in for approximately five seconds, then releasing the button. From then on, pressing and releasing the button will display the temperature in "°C".
  2. Change back to "°F" display in the same way.
Extended Temperature/Level Display
Press the button twice in rapid sequence to have the display remain on for an extended time. The display will automatically shut off after about two minutes. To manually shut off the display sooner, press the button once.

Display Errors
An "888" error code will display to indicate a disconnected or broken wire.
When the power level of the Dipstick battery falls below 2.5V the blue LED backlight is disabled, and the battery symbol (see Figure 2 ) will begin to flash.
NOTE
Oil level sensor accuracy is reduced at temperatures above 250° F (121° C), and oil level reading errors or inaccuracies may occur. Take another reading when temperature drops below 250° F (121° C).

Cleaning the Dipstick Microscreen
The dipstick oil level sensor requires oil to pass through the microscreen into the dipstick. To reduce measurement errors, periodically clean the microscreen.
Replacing the Battery
The LCD oil temperature display is powered by a long lasting, replaceable CR 2032 Lithium battery. When battery replacement is needed, only a CR 2032 battery should be used.
A replacement CR 2032 battery (Part Number 66373-06) is available from a Harley-Davidson dealer.
NOTE
These batteries are also widely available at local battery outlets.
NOTICE
Read the following instructions and make sure you fully understand them prior to replacing the battery. If the procedure is not within your capabilities, or you do not have the correct tool, have a Harley-Davidson dealer replace the battery. Improper installation could result in damage to this product. 1. See Figure 3. Carefully remove the flat rubber seal ring (1), and save for re-installation.
  2. NOTE
Be extremely careful when separating the upper (5) and lower (3) display body assemblies.
  3. Loosen the three small Phillips head screws (2) on the underside of the display body until the screw heads contact the silver-colored ring on the lower assembly.
  4. Gently pull the lower assembly out of the upper display body as far as it will come, then continue to alternately loosen the screws and extract the lower assembly. While being extremely careful not to strain the wiring, gently separate the upper and lower dipstick assemblies.
  5. NOTE
Be careful not to disturb the thin rubber seal ring when performing the following procedures.
  6. Note the battery orientation. Using a mechanics pick or a small screwdriver, carefully insert the tool under the battery (4) near the red dot (6). Gently pry the battery free. Discard the battery. Insert the new battery under the tabs (7) as shown and push the battery down until seated.
  7. Lining up the tab on the lower assembly with the notch in the upper body, assemble the two parts, being careful not to pinch the wiring. Alternately tighten the three screws while gradually seating the lower assembly, then tighten the screws securely.
  8. Carefully re-install the flat rubber seal ring.
  9. Insert the dipstick into the filler neck. See LCD READOUT DIPSTICK INSTALLATION.
  10. Check for proper operation by pressing the rubber button on the front face. See LCD READOUT DIPSTICK USE AND CARE.

Nature of the Liquid Crystal Display (LCD)
Due to the nature of an LCD, the readout will not display the oil temperature properly when the display body is exposed to extreme temperatures caused by heat transfer from the transmission case or oil tank.
These extremes can occur in stop and go traffic and/or parade duty combined with a high ambient (outside air) temperature. If this situation occurs, DO NOT be alarmed. The LCD will not be damaged, and will function properly when the LCD has returned to a normal operating temperature.
Note also that, after prolonged exposure to direct bright sunlight, some or all of the LCD segments may become visible, causing the LCD to appear to be reading improperly without the rubber button having been pressed. This can be overcome by shading the display until the face temperature cools enough to achieve a proper reading.
