Additional Parts Required
Proper installation of this kit requires the separate purchase of the following parts which are available at a Harley-Davidson dealer:
  • Wheel Installation Kit ( Table 3 through Table 10 to determine required installation kit.)
  • Brake Disc Screws ( Figure 1 and Table 1 )
  • Wheel Bearing Remover and Installer (94134-09A)
If installing kit 44615-08, 40774-10, 44657-08 or 43300053 on a Dyna model with stock laced wheels, the separate purchase of stock brake disc (44553-06A) or polished brake disc (41500012A) is required.
The following Harley-Davidson Genuine Motor Accessories are recommended for proper maintenance and cleaning:
  • Chrome Clean & Shine (93600031 (US) / 93600082 (International))
  • Glaze Poly Sealant (93600026 (US) / 93600079 (International))
  • Harley® Wheel and Spoke Brush (43078-99)
  • Wheel & Tire Cleaner (93600024 (US) / 93600076 (International))
  • Bare Aluminum Wheel Protectant (93600028 (US) / 93600083 (International))
Touch-up paint for painted wheels is available from a Harley-Davidson dealer:
  • Touch-Up pen, wheel, black (94482)

Rider and passenger safety depend upon the correct installation of this kit. Use the appropriate service manual procedures. If the procedure is not within your capabilities or you do not have the correct tools, have a Harley-Davidson dealer perform the installation. NOTE
This instruction sheet references service manual information. A service manual for this year/model motorcycle is required for this installation. One is available from a Harley-Davidson dealer.

NOTE: Models equipped with dual front brakes and models being equipped with a wheel with dual brake mounting surfaces require twice as many screws/washers (10 total screws or 2 chrome screw kits if available).
INSTALLATION
NOTE
Use plastic protectors on tire mounting tools and rim clamps when mounting a tire to a painted wheel.
For wide low profile tires a tire mounting machine with a second arm to press down on the sidewall while the wheel is rotating is recommended.
When mounting tires, liberally use tire lube on the wheel and tire.
For tire removal, use plastic inserts between the rim and tire after breaking the bead to create a large enough gap for the rim clamps.
1. Remove existing front wheel assembly. Save axle, axle nut, brake disc (except when replacing a stock laced wheel on a Dyna model) and wheel spacers for kit installation. Refer to FRONT WHEEL in service manual. For FXSTD models: Discard tapered spacer. Refer to FRONT WHEEL in service manual.
NOTE
For kits 43300350 and 43300351 install short valve stem (43157-83A), for all others install long valve stem (43206-01) included in the installation kit. Discard all other valve stems.
2. See Figure 2. Install valve stem assembly (M) on wheel. Refer to TIRES in service manual.
NOTE
Install the primary bearing first using appropriate service manual and WHEEL BEARING REMOVER/INSTALLER.
For Kits 44615-08, 40774-10, 44657-08, 43300053:
  • The lettering on the left side of the wheel indicates the primary bearing side.
  • For 2008 and later Dyna models: Install bearing shim (41450-08) under the primary bearing.
For Kits 40882-08, 40141-10, 44627-08 and 43300055:
  • For 2006 and later FXDWG Models: When correctly installed, the tire will be 2–5 mm (0–0 in) off of center, compared to the fender.
  • The left side of the wheel has DOT markings.
  • For 2006 and earlier FX Softail models and 2007 and earlier FXDWG models: The right side of the wheel is the primary bearing side.
  • For 2007 and later FX Softail models and 2008 and later FXDWG models: The left side of the wheel is the primary bearing side. Install the shim indicated in the installation kit table.
  • For FXSTS models: The right side is the brake disc side.
  • For all other models: The left side is the brake disc side.
NOTICE
Do not re-use brake disc/rotor screws. Re-using these screws can result in torque loss and damage to brake components. (00319c)
3. Assemble wheel installation kit components and brake disc(s) to wheel, using the appropriate service parts table. Refer to FRONT WHEEL in Service Manual.
4. For FXSTD models: Install wheel kit and wheel spacer provided in installation kit in place of the tapered right side spacer discarded in Step 1. Refer to FRONT WHEEL in service manual. For FXSTS models: Install the spacer provided in the installation kit between the stock left side spacer and the left fork. For all other models: Install previously removed wheel spacers. Refer to FRONT WHEEL in service manual.
5. Install front wheel (1), stock axle and stock axle nut. Refer to FRONT WHEEL in service manual.
MAINTENANCE AND CLEANING
Chrome and aluminum parts must be maintained regularly to keep their original shine and luster.
  1. Clean heavily-soiled wheel surfaces using Wheel and Tire Cleaner, applied with Wheel and Spoke Brush.
  2. Thoroughly clean chrome with a good quality chrome cleaner, such as Chrome Clean & Shine.
  3. For bare aluminum features on 40141-10, 40774-10, 43300053, 43300055 and 43300351 wheels, use Bare Aluminum Wheel Protectant.
  4. After cleaning and polishing, seal the finish with a good quality sealer, such as Glaze Poly Sealant.
