This cover fits 2007 and later Touring models. It is a direct replacement for the original equipment (OE) primary cover, and installs in the same manner.

Additional Parts Required

Proper installation of this cover requires the separate purchase of a primary chaincase cover gasket and a gasket service kit. These items are available from a Harley-Davidson dealer.

NOTE

Tools and Supplies Required

Genuine Harley-Davidson FORMULA+ TRANSMISSION AND PRIMARY CHAINCASE LUBRICANT (Part Number 99851-05) or equivalent is required for proper installation of this cover.

WARNING

Rider and passenger safety depend upon the correct installation of this kit. Use the appropriate service manual procedures. If the procedure is not within your capabilities or you do not have the correct tools, have a Harley-Davidson dealer perform the installation. Improper installation of this kit could result in death or serious injury. (00333b)

This instruction sheet refers to service manual information. A service manual for this year/model motorcycle is required for this installation and is available from a Harley-Davidson dealer.

INSTALLATION

WARNING

To prevent accidental vehicle start-up, which could cause death or serious injury, disconnect negative (-) battery cable before proceeding. (00048a)

Refer to the service manual and follow the instructions given to remove the seat and disconnect the negative (black) battery cable from the negative (-) battery terminal. Retain all seat mounting hardware.

See Figure 1. Remove the currently installed primary chaincase cover (1) per service manual instructions.

Install the new primary chaincase cover per the instructions in the service manual using a new primary cover gasket (2, purchased separately) and the hardware removed earlier.

Install the derby cover using the new gasket (3) from the gasket service kit (purchased separately) and the hardware removed earlier.

Install the magnetic drain plug using the new O-ring (4) from the gasket service kit. Fill the primary chaincase with lubricant per the instructions in the service manual.

NOTE

Verify that the ignition/light key switch is in the OFF position before attaching the battery cable.

Verify that the ignition/key switch is turned to the OFF position. Apply a light coat of Harley-Davidson electrical contact lubricant (Part Number 99861-02), petroleum jelly or corrosion retardant material to the negative battery terminal. Refer to the service manual and follow the instructions given to attach the negative battery cable.

WARNING

After installing seat, pull upward on seat to be sure it is locked in position. While riding, a loose seat can shift causing loss of control, which could result in death or serious injury. (00070b)
