This kit also requires the separate purchase of Loctite® 243 (blue) (Harley-Davidson Part Number 99642-97) which can be purchased from any Harley-Davidson Dealer.

This instruction sheet references Service Manual information. A Service Manual for your model motorcycle is required for this installation and is available from a Harley-Davidson Dealer.

See Figure 1 and Table 1.
INSTALLATION
WARNING
Be sure fasteners do not extend inward beyond fender mounting bracket. Fastener contact with tire can lead to premature tire failure, which could result in death or serious injury. (00389a)
  1. Remove and discard one rear fender attaching screw from the bottom front of the rear fender support.
  2. See Figure 1. Obtain one of the 1-1/4 inch (32 mm) long chrome button head TORX® screw (1) and chrome washer (3) from the kit.
  3. Apply Loctite 243 (blue) (Harley-Davidson Part Number 99642-97) to the threads of the screw. Insert the screw threads through the counterbore side of the chrome washer and the hole in the fender support, and into the hole in the motorcycle frame. Tighten the screw to 21-27 ft-lbs (28.5-36.6 Nm).
  4. Moving toward the rear of the vehicle, repeat Steps 1, 2 and 3 for the remaining 1-1/4 inch (32 mm) long chrome button head TORX fender attaching screws (1) and washers (3).
  5. Remove and discard one 7/8 inch (22 mm) long fender attaching screw from the center of the rear fender support.
  6. Obtain one of the 7/8 inch (22 mm) long chrome button head TORX® screw (2) and chrome washer (3) from the kit.
  7. Apply Loctite 243 (blue) (Harley-Davidson Part Number 99642-97) to the threads of the screw. Insert the screw threads through the counterbore side of the chrome washer and the hole in the fender support, and through hole in the motorcycle frame and into the rear fender mounting bracket (D). Tighten the screw to 21-27 ft-lbs (28.5-36.6 Nm).
  8. Moving toward the rear of the vehicle, repeat Steps 5, and 6 for the remaining fender attaching screws using 7/8 inch (22 mm) long chrome button head TORX screws (2) and washers (3) from the kit.
  9. Repeat Steps 1 through 8 for the opposite side of the motorcycle.
