Kit Contents
See Figure 5 and Table 1.
INSTALLATION
Install The Sensor
1. Obtain the oil temperature sending unit from the oil temperature gauge kit.

2. Coat the threads of the sending unit with Loctite 565 thread sealant (Part Number 99818-97).
NOTE
If this kit is used in combination with Premium Oil Cooler Kit, Part Number 26155-07, proceed to "If Used With Oil Cooler Installation" section.
3. See Figure 1. Install sending unit (1) into the open port of the adapter assembly (2).
Mount Components on Motorcycle
1. See Figure 2. Remove the spin-on oil filter (1) and oil filter adapter (2) from oil filter mount (3). Discard filter adapter. Clean stock filter-mounting area thoroughly.
NOTE
The oil adapter assembly has a flange protruding out of the back side. The flange must be installed toward the oil filter assembly and through the oil adapter gasket.
Adjust the angle of the adapter assembly to prevent the filter adapter from contacting other vehicle components while the vehicle is running. Incorrect adapter installation can result in damage to the oil-filter assembly.
NOTICE
Incorrect gasket alignment and installation can cause filtered and unfiltered oil to mix, which can result in engine damage. (00420b)
2. See Figure 3. Obtain oil adapter gasket (1), oil adapter assembly (2) and align flange (3) so it is installed into oil adapter gasket cutout (4) as shown.
3. See Figure 5. With the oil adapter gasket (1) and oil adapter assembly (3) in place, thread the oil adapter fitting (2) from the kit through the oil adapter assembly with coated threads facing inward and internal hex facing outward. Tighten to 12-16 ft lbs (16.3-21.7 Nm).

2. Install the Premium Oil Cooler (3) according to the instructions provided in that kit, except for the installation of the long hose (bottom).
3. Measure 2.12 inches (5) from the lower end of the hose (7), and cut.
4. Install the T-fitting (2) from this kit with the sensor connection facing down.
5. Secure T-fitting and sensor with worm gear clamps (4) from kit. Position clamps so they may be accessible and to avoid contact with other components.
6. Install the long hose (6) (bottom) as specified in the Premium Oil Cooler Kit. The sensor will be located under the stabilizer link.
NOTE
Check that hose routing is clear of the oil filter and sharp edges. The hoses must be free of bends or kinks that could obstruct oil flow.
7. Use worm drive clamp (7) to fasten hoses to oil filter adapter and oil cooler. Tighten to 8.0 in-lbs (0.9 Nm).
NOTE
Using Oil Filter Wrench (HD-44067A) will prevent damage to the crankshaft position sensor.
8. Use Oil Filter Wrench (HD-44067A) to install oil filter.
NOTE
Refer to the Owner's Manual for oil level cold check instructions.
9. Add oil to FILL level on dipstick.
NOTE
Before starting vehicle, check that harness routing does not in any way interfere with full steering operation.
10. Connect the wiring harness of the oil temperature gauge to the sensor as specified in the oil temperature gauge kit. Check that harness is properly secured to avoid pinch points, contact with hot components and chafing.
System Flow Test - All Models
NOTICE
Do NOT operate the engine when the oil level is below the add mark on the dipstick at operating temperature. Engine damage could result. (00493b)
NOTICE
Oil level cannot be accurately measured on a cold engine. For pre-ride inspection, with motorcycle leaning on jiffy stand on level ground, oil should register on dipstick between arrows when engine is cold. Do not add oil to bring the level to the FULL mark on a COLD engine. (00185a)
NOTICE
To avoid over-filling the oil sump, wait approximately three minutes after adding oil before checking the oil level with the dipstick. An over-filled sump can cause engine damage. (00188a)
  1. Start engine. Examine all hose connections for leaks. If there is no leakage, allow engine to warm up.
  2. Verify that temperature of oil cooler increases as engine reaches operating temperatures. If the oil cooler remains cool after engine warms up, there maybe an oil obstruction. Turn off engine and check system for obstruction.
  3. After engine has cooled, re-tighten all hose clamps to 6.0 in-lbs (0.7 Nm).
