1. | See Figure 1. Remove the cap (2) from the bleeder screw (1), and set aside for re-use. Front caliper: Hold the banjo bolt (3) firmly in place with a wrench, and remove the bleeder screw from the banjo bolt with a second wrench. Rear caliper: Remove the bleeder screw from the brake caliper. NOTE When removing or replacing a brake line bleeder screw, remove and discard the O-ring (4, if present) from the banjo bolt or caliper bore before installing the new bleeder screw. The O-ring is used only for brake bleeding at the factory, and is not necessary for operation of the brake system. If the O-ring is not removed, it may become lodged in the bore upon installation of the new bleeder screw, and prevent proper tightening and sealing of the bleeder screw.
2. | If present, remove and discard the O-ring from the banjo bolt or caliper bore, and clean out any dirt or residue remaining in the bore.
3. | Install the new bleeder screw, and tighten to 9–11.3 N·m (80–100 in-lbs) NOTE The brake system on this vehicle uses D.O.T. 4 BRAKE FLUID. Do not mix grades of brake fluid as they are not compatible. Mixing different types of fluid may adversely affect braking ability and lead to brake failure which could result in death or serious injury. Immediately wipe up any brake fluid spillage with a clean, dry, soft cloth. Follow up by thoroughly wiping affected area with a clean, damp, soft cloth (small spills) or washing with a large quantity of soapy water (large spills). Verify that the fuel tank, front fender, chrome, and footboards are properly covered with a polyethylene protective sheet.
![]() Contact with DOT 4 brake fluid can have serious health effects. Failure to wear proper skin and eye protection could result in death or serious injury.
