1. | ALL models: See Figure 2. Obtain the new left- and right-front turn signal lamps (Items 3 and 4) from the kit. The front lamps can be identified by the "D"-shaped mounting boss (D) on the housing. Identify left and right lamps by the visor and raised flames at the top.
2. | Models that HAD handlebar-mounted turn signals installed: Refer to the instructions that came with the Front Turn Signal Relocation Kit to install the new right- and left-front turn signal lamps. Models that HAD fork-mounted turn signals installed: install the new right- and left-front turn signal lamps to the front forks using the clamps or stalks and mounting hardware removed earlier. ALL models: Align the lamp housings so that the lenses will be aimed straight ahead for proper visibility. While holding each turn signal in position, tighten per the instructions in the Front Turn Signal Relocation Kit.
3. | Route the turn signal wiring to the area under the fuel tank per the notes made earlier or the instructions in the relocation kit.
4. | Obtain six socket terminals (1) from this kit. Refer to the service manual appendix, and follow the instructions to crimp the socket terminals to the new turn signal wire leads. Install each terminal into the correct cavity of the socket housing per the notes made earlier. For 2011 and later FLSTF and FLSTFB models: Note that the right-side lamp violet wire gets installed into the cavity that mates with a blue/orange wire. The left-side lamp violet wire gets installed into the cavity that mates with a blue/pink wire. For ALL other models: Note that the right-side lamp violet wire gets installed into the cavity that (in most cases) originally contained a brown wire.
5. | Connect the socket housing to the main harness pin housing under the fuel tank. Install cable straps (2) from the kit as needed to retain the turn signal wiring.
![]() When servicing the fuel system, do not smoke or allow open flame or sparks in the vicinity. Gasoline is extremely flammable and highly explosive, which could result in death or serious injury. (00330a)
6. | Install the fuel tank per service manual instructions. Proceed to Rear Turn Signal Lamp Removal for the specific model motorcycle. |
1. | Get the new left- and right-rear turn signal lamps (Items 7 and 8) from the kit. The rear lamps can be identified by the round mounting boss in a teardrop-shaped depression (E) in the housing. Identify left and right lamps by the visor and raised flames at the top.
2. | See the service manual for rear turn signal LAMP HOUSING REPLACEMENT instructions for the specific model motorcycle. Feed the turn signal wires through the lamp supports removed earlier, and into the holes in the fender.
3. | Attach the turn signal lamps and supports to the vehicle with the fasteners removed earlier. Align the lamp housings so that the lenses will be aimed straight rearward for proper visibility. While holding each turn signal in position, tighten the fasteners to 10.8–13.6 N·m (96–120 in-lbs)
4. | Route the turn signal wires to the tail/stop lamp, and feed the four turn signal wires out through the opening in the lower left of the tail/stop lamp base. At the wire ends, verify which wires come from the left or right turn signal.
5. | Cut any excess length from the turn signal wires, leaving enough wire to easily affix the new terminals and insert the turn signal connectors into the tail lamp circuit board.
6. | Obtain the four socket terminals (1) from this kit. Refer to the service manual appendix, and follow the instructions to crimp the socket terminals to the new turn signal wire leads. NOTE Be sure to keep the wire pair from each turn signal properly identified through the following steps. On XL models, the white connector is used for the left-side turn signal. If necessary, carefully strip a short length of the shrink conduit from the ends of the wire pairs for ease of assembly to the connectors. Take care not to cut the wire insulation.
7. | For each turn signal, insert the violet wire into cavity 1 of the two-place turn signal connector. Insert the black wire into cavity 2 of the connector.
8. | Insert the left-side and right-side two-place turn signal connectors into the correct cavities in the tail lamp circuit board.
9. | Position the turn-signal wires so they will not be pinched during tail/ stop lamp installation. Install the tail/ stop lamp lens to the lamp base with the two screws removed earlier. Tighten to 2.3–2.7 N·m (20–24 in-lbs)
10. | Insert the turn signal wires into the retention clips under the fender.
11. | Proceed to Final Assembly. |
1. | Models with main fuse: Refer to the service manual and follow the instructions to install the main fuse. Models with main circuit breaker: Refer to the service manual and follow the instructions to attach the negative battery cable. Apply a light coat of Harley-Davidson electrical contact lubricant (Part No. 99861-02), petroleum jelly or corrosion retardant material to the negative battery terminal. NOTE Check for proper lamp operation before riding the motorcycle. Weak, intermittent, or non-operational lamps indicate a poor connection or a short in the wires. If the rear turn signals operate opposite of switch function, remove the tail lamp lens assembly and disconnect and reverse the turn signal electrical connectors in the tail lamp assembly. Test the rear turn signals again for proper function.
![]() Be sure that all lights and switches operate properly before operating motorcycle. Low visibility of rider can result in death or serious injury. (00316a)
2. | Turn the ignition key switch to ON to power the lamps, but do not start the motorcycle. Make sure that both turn signals, the tail/stop lamp assembly and the license plate lamp function properly. |
