WARNING
Do not exceed saddlebag weight capacity. Put equal weight in each bag. Too much weight in saddlebags can cause loss of control, which could result in death or serious injury. (00383a)
NOTE
Maximum saddlebag weight capacity is 3.2 Kg (7 lb) per saddlebag. Distribute load evenly between left and right saddlebags.
Additional Parts Required
If saddlebags are removed, original equipment (OE) reflectors must be installed. Domestic models require separate purchase of reflector part numbers 67900036 and 67900037. International models require separate purchase of reflector part numbers 67900060 and 67900061.
WARNING
Rider and passenger safety depend upon the correct installation of this kit. Use the appropriate service manual procedures. If the procedure is not within your capabilities or you do not have the correct tools, have a Harley-Davidson dealer perform the installation. Improper installation of this kit could result in death or serious injury. (00333b)
NOTE
This instruction sheet references service manual information. A service manual for your model motorcycle is required for this installation and is available from a Harley-Davidson dealer.
Installation of this kit will require Loctite® 243 Threadlocker and Sealer (Blue) (Part No. 99642-97) and is available from a Harley-Davidson Dealer.
Kit Contents
See Figure 3 and Table 1.
INSTALLATION
WARNING
To prevent accidental vehicle start-up, which could cause death or serious injury, remove main fuse before proceeding. (00251b)
1. Follow the instructions in the service manual and remove the main fuse.
2. Follow the instructions in the service manual to remove the pillion and rear fender.
3. Remove stock reflectors with mounting brackets from rear fender and discard.
NOTE
OE reflectors must be installed if saddlebag kit is removed.
4. If desired, saddlebag reflectors can be installed before saddlebags are installed on vehicle. Refer to "Install Reflectors" topic in this instruction sheet.
5. See Figure 1. Insert screw (7) from inside of the inner fender (8), through the inner fender and saddlebag support (9).
6. Install flat washer (6) and nut (5).
7. Repeat Steps 5-6 for other hole in the inner fender.
8. Tighten nuts (5) to 26–28 N·m (19–21 ft-lbs).
NOTICE
Check that saddlebag frame(s) are fully seated and tightly secured with mounting hardware. Failure to do so could result in the saddlebags becoming detached and/or damaged. (00171b)
9. Repeat Steps 4-8 for other saddlebag support.
10. Install rear fender following the instructions in the service manual. Connect any harnesses that were disconnected.
11. Install pillion following instructions in service manual.
12. Apply Loctite 243 Threadlocker and Sealer (Blue) to threads of screws (1).
13. Open lid of saddlebag and install screws with washers (2) from inside of saddlebag though the weld-nuts. Tighten finger-tight.
14. Repeat Steps 12 and 13 for screws (3) and washers (4).
15. Repeat Steps 12-14 for other saddlebag.
16. Final tighten saddlebag mounting screws to 7.7–8.5 N·m (68–75 in-lbs).
17. If not done previously, install reflectors.
18. Install main fuse following the instructions in the service manual.
WARNING
Be sure headlamp, tail and stop lamp and turn signals are operating properly before riding. Poor visibility of rider to other motorists can result in death or serious injury. (00478b)
19. Verify that all lighting is functioning properly.
Install Reflectors
WARNING
Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) 108 requires motorcycles to be equipped with rear and side reflectors. Be sure rear and side reflectors are properly mounted. Poor visibility of rider to other motorists can result in death or serious injury. (00336b)
1. See Figure 2. Measure approximately 25-40 mm (1.0-1.5 in) from the rear edge of the logo strip (1) and make a vertically-centered mark on the logo strip with a pen (or other appropriate tool). This is the first hole location.
2. Align the left post of the reflector mount on the mark and center the reflector mount vertically. Make a mark on the logo strip at the right post position. This is the second hole location.
3. Using appropriate tool, make two 4 mm (3/16 in) holes through the logo strip and outer pocket layer only.
4. Install reflector mount posts through the holes and and install the two push nuts ( Figure 3 ) on the posts from the inside of the pocket.
5. Remove backing from adhesive on reflector and install on reflector mount.
6. Repeat all steps for other saddlebag.
7. Let the adhesive cure for at least 24 hours at no less than 60°F (16°C) before exposing to rain or high-pressure water spray.

Saddlebag Operation
Use care that the saddlebag contents are not damaged by the mounting hardware inside the saddlebag.
