INSTALLATION
Preparation
Models with Main Fuse:
WARNING
To prevent accidental vehicle start-up, which could cause death or serious injury, remove main fuse before proceeding. (00251b)
  1. Refer to the service manual and follow the instructions given to remove the main fuse.
Models with Main Circuit Breaker:
WARNING
To prevent accidental vehicle start-up, which could cause death or serious injury, disconnect negative (-) battery cable before proceeding. (00048a)
  1. Refer to the service manual and follow the instructions given to remove the seat and disconnect the negative (black) battery cable from the negative (-) battery terminal. Retain all seat mounting hardware.
  2. See the service manual and remove the outer fairing and windshield.
Installation
NOTE
Make the connections to the cigarette lighter one lead at a time to prevent crossing the connections, which could damage the hidden antenna.
Having more than one accessory connected to the terminal mounting tab on the cigarette lighter terminals could lead to a short circuit of the accessory circuit.
  1. For models that do not have an accessory connected to terminal mounting tab on the cigarette lighter terminals: Connect the hidden antenna to the cigarette lighter terminals as follows: For models that already have an accessory connected to terminal mounting tab on the cigarette lighter terminals: Splice into the power (orange/white or orange/red) and ground (black) wires to connect the hidden antenna as follows:
    1. Disconnect the black wire [132B] from the cigarette lighter. Connect it to the connector of the hidden antenna's black wire.
    2. Connect the hidden antenna's black wire to the cigarette lighter's ground terminal.
    3. Disconnect the orange/white wire (or orange/red) [132B] from the cigarette lighter. Connect it to the connector of the hidden antenna's red wire.
    4. Connect the hidden antenna's red wire to the cigarette lighter's power terminal.
    1. Cut the connectors from the black and red wires of the hidden antenna and strip approximately 10 mm (⅜ in) of insulation from the end of each wire.
    2. Cut the black wire leading to the cigarette lighter approximately 25 mm (1 in) back from the connector.
    3. See the sealed splice instructions in the service manual and splice the black wire of the hidden antenna to the two ends of the cut black (ground) wire using a sealed splice included in the kit.
    4. Cut the orange/white or orange/red wire leading to the cigarette lighter approximately 25 mm (1 in) back from the connector.
    5. See the sealed splice instructions in the service manual and splice the black wire of the hidden antenna to the two ends of the cut orange/white or orange/red (power) wire using a sealed splice included in the kit.
  2. Disconnect the stock am/fm antenna [51A]. Secure the antenna wire out of the way.
  3. Connect the antenna wire from the hidden antenna to the radio antenna port [51B].
  4. Use the alcohol cleaning pad from the kit to clean the antenna mounting area on the outer fairing.
  5. See Figure 1. For Electra Glide®, Street Glide® and Trike models, remove the protective tape from the adhesive pads of the hidden antenna and install the antenna onto the outer fairing in the location shown. See Figure 2. For Road Glide® models, remove the protective tape from the adhesive pads of the hidden antenna and install the antenna onto the outer fairing in the location shown. If it is installed too high the hidden antenna could contact the radio brackets.
  6. Remove the OE antenna.
  7. Install the thread protector from the kit over the antenna base.
  8. For FLHX models: Remove the grommet from the antenna pass-through hole and install the hole plug from the kit.

Return to Service
1. Verify that the ignition/light key switch is turned to the OFF position. Models with Main Fuse: Refer to the service manual and follow the instructions given to install the main fuse. Models with Main Circuit Breaker: Apply a light coat of Harley-Davidson electrical contact lubricant (part number 99861-02), petroleum jelly or corrosion retardant material to the negative battery terminal. Refer to the service manual and follow the instructions given to attach the negative battery cable.
WARNING
After installing seat, pull upward on seat to be sure it is locked in position. While riding, a loose seat can shift causing loss of control, which could result in death or serious injury. (00070b)
2. Refer to the service manual, and follow instructions to install the seat.
NOTE
Installation of the hidden antenna can result in a slight reduction of AM signal reception in certain urban and rural locations.
3. Test the radio to verify that the antenna is working properly.
4. Use the cable straps included in the kit to secure the excess hidden antenna wiring, as necessary.
5. See the service manual, and install the outer fairing and windshield.
