Additional Parts and Tools Required
Proper installation of this kit requires the replacement of two fender-mounted reflectors (Part No. 59407-01).
Loctite® 222 MS Threadlocker and Sealant - Purple (Part No. 99811-97) is required for the proper installation of this kit. These items are available separately from a Harley-Davidson dealer.
WARNINGRider and passenger safety depend upon the correct installation of this kit. Use the appropriate service manual procedures. If the procedure is not within your capabilities or you do not have the correct tools, have a Harley-Davidson dealer perform the installation. NOTE
This instruction sheet refers to service manual information. A service manual for this year/model motorcycle is required for this installation and is available from a Harley-Davidson dealer.
INSTALLATION
NOTE
For vehicles equipped with security siren:
- Verify that the Hands-Free Fob is present.
- Turn the ignition key switch to IGNITION.
For ALL Vehicles:
WARNINGTo prevent accidental vehicle start-up, which could cause death or serious injury, remove main fuse before proceeding. (00251b)
| 1. | Remove the main fuse per service manual instructions. Remove the seat. Retain all seat mounting hardware. | |||||||||||||||
| 2. | See Figure 1. Remove the rear fender assembly (1) per service manual instructions. Retain the fender washers (4) and discard the fender nuts (3). | |||||||||||||||
| 3. | Remove and retain the tail lamp lens (5), screws (6) and washers (7). Remove the screw with washer, and the tail lamp chrome base from the fender. Set aside for later assembly. | |||||||||||||||
| 4. | Repeat Steps 2-3 on the opposite side of the vehicle. |

| 5. | Inspect the adhesive rubber pads on the side of the body, and replace if necessary. | |||||||||||||||
| 6. | See Figure 2. Install each new rear fender assembly (1 or 2) to the vehicle body with six screws (6) and nuts (7) from the kit, and the saved washers (B). Tighten the screws to 12.2–14.9 N·m (108–132 in-lbs). | |||||||||||||||
| 7. | Install a tail lamp circuit board, pin housing and chrome base to each new rear fender assembly per service manual instructions. Apply a few drops of Loctite 222 MS - Purple to the clean screw threads, and tighten to 4.1–5.4 N·m (36–48 in-lbs). NOTE Ambient temperature should be at least 16 °C (60 °F) for proper adhesion of the reflectors to the rear fenders. | |||||||||||||||
| 8. | Install a new reflector (Part No. 59407-01, purchased separately) to each rear fender per service manual instructions. | |||||||||||||||
| 9. | Route the rear lamp harnesses on the underside of the fenders. Capture the harnesses in the clips (3 and 4), and connect per the instructions in the service manual. | |||||||||||||||
| 10. | Install the tail lamps and wheels per service manual instructions. |
NOTE
Any time a rear wheel is removed and installed, the lug nut torque must be checked within 800–1,600 km (500–1,000 mi).
RETURN TO SERVICE
NOTE
Verify that the ignition key switch is in the OFF position before installing the main fuse.

| WARNING After installing seat, pull upward on seat to be sure it is locked in position. While riding, a loose seat can shift causing loss of control, which could result in death or serious injury. (00070b) | ||
| 3. | Refer to the service manual, and follow instructions to install the seat. |
