1. | See Figure 1. Test-fit the edge lights (2) to the outer fairing before installation. Do not remove the liner until ready to apply the light strips. |

2. | Clean the outer fairing side edges with a 50-50 mixture of isopropyl alcohol and distilled water. Allow to dry thoroughly.
3. | Cut several strips of masking or electrical tape to 9.5 mm (⅜ in) wide.
4. | Position the tape strips (1) along the outboard edge of the outer fairing in the area of installation.
5. | With the wiring exiting the lower end of the strip, position a light strip on the fairing, along the inboard edge of the tape. Do not remove the adhesive backing at this time.
6. | Allow the light strip to seek its best fit position along the curving surface. Hold or temporarily tape the strip in this location.
7. | Pivot the adjustable air deflector (3, if installed) to be sure that the light strip does not interfere with movement. Reposition the strip slightly if necessary, and mark the final location with additional tape or a contrasting colored grease pencil. Be sure to mark the fairing surface at the upper end of the light strip.
8. | Remove about 1/3 of the liner from the adhesive backing at the upper end of the light strip. Carefully position the light strip to the fairing at the 9.5 mm (⅜ in) distance from the edge, using the tape as a guide and aligning the strip with the references on the fairing. Slowly press the light strip into place while exposing more of the adhesive backing, keeping the strip aligned with the guide references.
9. | Apply sliding pressure along the entire length of the light strip, making sure of a good bond.
10. | Repeat on the opposite side of the fairing, making sure to align the top edge of the light strips on each side.
11. | Remove the 9.5 mm (⅜ in) wide pieces of tape that outlined the fairing edge. |
1. | See Figure 2. Get the jumper harness (3), cable straps (4) and adhesive-backed clips (5) from the kit. |

2. | With the help of an assistant, remove the outer fairing per the service manual with the following possible exception: a. The headlamp connector [38] (1) can remain plugged in to the back of the headlamp unless it is necessary to move the outer fairing to a work surface. Protect the outer fairing finish from damage by covering the work surface with H-D Service Covers or clean shop towels.
3. | Locate the black and orange/white HDI headlight position spade terminals [29B-1] and [29B-2] taped back to the headlamp branch of the vehicle harness. Plug the orange/white spade terminal housing on the vehicle into the orange/white wired terminal housing (2) on the jumper harness (3). Plug the black wired spade terminal into the black wired terminal housing.
4. | Bring the outer fairing near to its installed position.
5. | Route the light strip wires into the inner fairing. Plug each jumper harness spade terminal into one of the light strip terminal housings (6). Plug the headlamp connector [38] into the back of the headlamp, if unplugged earlier.
6. | Attach adhesive-backed clips (5) to the inner fairing, just above the fairing skirt seal (7). Use cable straps (2) to tie the wires to existing wiring.
7. | Partially install the outer fairing per the service manual by starting the three screws with flat washers just below the windshield.
8. | Models with main fuse: See the service manual and install the main fuse. Models with main circuit breaker: See the service manual and attach the negative battery cable. Apply a light coat of Harley-Davidson electrical contact lubricant (Part No. 99861-02), petroleum jelly or corrosion retardant material to the negative battery terminal.
9. | Test the operation of the light strips. The strips should illuminate with the ignition key switch in the IGNITION or ACCESSORY position.
10. | Complete the outer fairing installation per the service manual.
WARNING After installing seat, pull upward on seat to be sure it is locked in position. While riding, a loose seat can shift causing loss of control, which could result in death or serious injury. (00070b)
11. | Models with main circuit breaker: See the service manual and install the seat. |
