This instruction sheet references service manual information. A service manual for your model motorcycle is required for this installation and is available from a Harley-Davidson Dealer.
Kit Contents

WARNING
Do not use parts from single caliper repair kits (9/16 inch bore) on dual caliper models. Likewise, do not use parts from dual caliper repair kits (11/16 inch bore) on single caliper models. Using incorrect parts can cause brake failure, which could result in death or serious injury. (00278a)
WARNING
Contact with DOT 4 brake fluid can have serious health effects. Failure to wear proper skin and eye protection could result in death or serious injury.
  • If inhaled: Keep calm, remove to fresh air, seek medical attention.
  • If on skin: Remove contaminated clothing. Rinse skin immediately with plenty of water for 15-20 minutes. If irritation develops, seek medical attention.
  • If in eyes: Wash affected eyes for at least 15 minutes under running water with eye lids held open. If irritation develops, seek medical attention.
  • If swallowed: Rinse mouth and then drink plenty of water. Do not induce vomiting. Contact Poison Control. Immediate medical attention required.

NOTICE
DOT 4 brake fluid will damage painted and body panel surfaces it comes in contact with. Always use caution and protect surfaces from spills whenever brake work is performed. Failure to comply can result in cosmetic damage. (00239c)
NOTICE
Do not allow dirt or debris to enter the master cylinder reservoir. Dirt or debris in the reservoir can cause improper operation and equipment damage. (00205c)
INSTALLATION
Forward Control Footpegs
1. See Figure 1. Install master cylinder assembly (2) on rear brake pedal (1). Install washer (5) and new cotter pin (4) on clevis pin (6).
2. See Figure 4. Install brake pedal to footpeg support using O-rings (E), washer (F) and screw (G). Tighten screw to 12-16 ft-lbs (16.2-21.6 Nm).
3. See Figure 2. Fit collar on cartridge body into hole of mounting bracket. Apply LOCTITE THREADLOCKER 243 (blue) to threads of nut (4) if reusing (new nut has lock patch). Install nut on cartridge body until finger tight. Tighten to 30-40 ft-lbs (40.7-54.2 Nm).
4. Lubricate new steel/rubber washers (2) with D.O.T. 4 BRAKE FLUID. Position new steel/rubber washers on each side of brake line (3). Insert the banjo bolt (1) through washers and fitting. Tighten to 17-22 ft-lbs (23-30 Nm).
5. See Figure 3. Install retainer (2) into position. Make sure tab on retainer is in alignment hole (3). Install the three footboard fasteners (1) to the retainer and frame plate and tighten to 29-34 ft-lbs (39.4-46.1 Nm).
6. Install length of clear plastic tubing over caliper bleeder valve. Place free end of tube in a clean container.
7. Stand the motorcycle upright so that the master cylinder is in a level position. Remove the master cylinder cover.

8. Add D.O.T. 4 BRAKE FLUID to the master cylinder reservoir until the fluid level is .375 ± .125 in. (6.35 ± 3.18 mm) from the top. Do not reuse old brake fluid. Use only D.O.T. 4 fluid from a sealed container.

Footboards
1. See Figure 1. Install master cylinder assembly (2) on rear brake pedal (1). Install washer (5) and new cotter pin (4) on clevis pin (6).
2. See Figure 5. Install brake pedal (9) to footpeg support using O-rings (C), washer (H) and screw (G). Tighten screw to 12-16 ft-lbs (16.2-21.6 Nm).
