This accessory must be removed when vehicle is sold for non-police use. Follow all applicable federal, state and local regulations when changing to a civilian vehicle.
Installation Requirements
WARNINGRider and passenger safety depend upon the correct installation of this kit. Use the appropriate service manual procedures. If the procedure is not within your capabilities or you do not have the correct tools, have a Harley-Davidson dealer perform the installation. Improper installation of this kit could result in death or serious injury. (00333b)
NOTE
This instruction sheet refers to service manual information. A service manual and a Police Model service manual supplement for this year/model motorcycle is required for this installation. These manuals are available from a Harley-Davidson dealer.
PREPARATION
WARNINGTo prevent accidental vehicle start-up, which could cause death or serious injury, remove main fuse before proceeding. (00251b)
NOTE
- Vehicles equipped with security siren: With security fob present, turn ignition switch ON. After system is disarmed, turn ignition switch OFF. IMMEDIATELY remove the main fuse per the service manual.
- Vehicles WITHOUT security siren: See the service manual to remove the main fuse.
INSTALLATION
| 1. | Remove the left saddlebag per the Police service manual supplement. Remove the Police Tour-Pak™ if present. | |
| 2. | Remove the TORX® pan head screw in the rearmost position (A) of the left saddlebag support. | |
| 3. | See Figure 1. Get the pole lamp mounting bracket (1), 38 mm (1.5 in) long hex socket screw (10) and 13 mm (0.5 in) thick spacer (11) from the kit. | |
| 4. | Insert the spacer (11) into the recess vacated by the screw in Step 2. | |
| 5. | Slide the bracket (1) over the rear edge of the original equipment (OE) Tour-Pak support (B) as shown in the Figure 1 inset. Align the hole in the bracket side plate over the spacer (11). | |
| 6. | Insert the screw (10) through the side plate hole, the spacer and the saddlebag support. Partially install the screw into the vehicle frame to hold the pole lamp mounting bracket (1) loosely in place. | |
| 7. | Align the three holes on the top of the pole lamp mounting bracket with the mating holes in the OE Tour-Pak support (B). With Police Tour-Pak:Without Police Tour-Pak: a. Get the Police Tour-Pak mounting bracket (Item D, sold separately). Align the four holes with the mating holes in the pole lamp mounting bracket (1) and the OE Tour-Pak support (B). b. Get two 25.4 mm (1.0 in) long screws (6), two spacers (9), two flange nuts (8) and four flat washers (7) from the kit. c. Install a washer (7) onto the threads of each screw. d. Insert a spacer (9) between the underside of the OE Tour-Pak support (B) and the lower plate of the pole lamp mounting bracket (1) as shown in the Figure 1 inset. e. Insert the screws (6) with washers (7) through the Police Tour-Pak bracket (D), pole lamp bracket (1) upper plate, OE Tour-Pak support (B), spacer (9) and pole lamp bracket (1) lower plate. Install a second washer (7) onto each screw. Install flange nuts (8) onto the threads, but do not fully tighten. f. Get two 31.5 mm (1.25 in) long screws (5), two flange nuts (8), one large flat washer (12) and four small flat washers (7) from the kit. g. Align the large washer (12) over the right side forward hole (F) of the OE Tour-Pak support (B). h. Slide a small flat washer (7) between the upper and lower plates of the Police Tour-Pak bracket (D) at each larger hole (E) location. i. Insert the screws (5) through the upper holes (E), small washers, lower holes, the pole lamp mounting bracket (1) or large washer (12), and the OE Tour-Pak support (B). Install a second washer (7) onto each screw. Install flange nuts (8) onto the threads, but do not fully tighten. j. Get two 25.4 mm (1.0 in) long screws (6), two spacers (9), two flange nuts (8) and four flat washers (7) from the kit. k. Install a washer (7) onto each screw. l. Insert a spacer (9) between the underside of the Tour-Pak support (B) and the lower plate of the pole lamp mounting bracket (1) as shown in the Figure 1 inset. m. Insert the screws (6) with washers (7) through the pole lamp bracket (1) upper plate, Tour-Pak support (B), spacer (9) and pole lamp bracket (1) lower plate. Install a second washer (7) onto each screw. Install flange nuts (8) onto the threads, but do not fully tighten. n. Get two 31.5 mm (1.25 in) long screws (5), two flange nuts (8), one large flat washer (12) and four small flat washers (7) from the kit. o. Place the large washer (12) over the right side forward hole (F) of the Tour-Pak support (B). p. Install a washer (7) onto the threads of each screw. q. Insert the screws (5) with washers (7) through the pole lamp mounting bracket (1) or large washer (12), and the Tour-Pak support (B). Install a second washer (7) onto the screw threads. Install flange nuts (8) onto the threads, but do not fully tighten. | |
| 8. | ALL installations: Alternately tighten the four top screws (5, 6) and flange nuts (8) to 13.6 Nm (10 ft-lbs). Tighten the side plate screw (10) to 20.3 Nm (15 ft-lbs). | |
| 9. | Remove the eight screws (3) and nuts (4) from the pole lamp bracket. Remove the clamp half (2). Install the Police Pole Lamp per the instructions in that kit. | |
| 10. | Install the left saddlebag per the Police service manual supplement. Install the Police Tour-Pak if present. |
COMPLETION
NOTE
Verify that the ignition is OFF before installing the main fuse.
