INSTALLATION
This handlebar installs in the same manner as the original equipment (OE) handlebar. See the service manual for instructions on removing and installing the handlebar.
WARNING
Be sure that steering is smooth and free without interference. Interference with steering could result in loss of vehicle control and death or serious injury. (00371a)
  • Cables should not catch on headlamp hardware or pass in front of headlamp.
  • Cables should not catch on turn signal mounting hardware or turn signals.
  • Cables should not catch on fuel cap or fuel gauge.
  • Cables should not catch on speedometer or tachometer.
  • Be sure cables are not pinched between the frame and/or forks.
  • Be sure clutch cables do not pull tight when handlebars are turned fully to left or right fork stops.
  • Be sure throttle/idle control cables do not pull tight when handlebars are turned fully to left or right fork stops.
LEFT HANDGRIP REPLACEMENT
Use the following procedure if it becomes necessary to replace the left hand grip.
Removal
Slice the hand grip open with a sharp knife. Peel the hand grip open to remove.
Installation
  1. Clean grip area of handlebar to remove all residual adhesive.
  2. Rough the left grip end of the handlebar with emery cloth.
  3. Clean the grip end with acetone.
  4. Apply LOCTITE 770 PRISM PRIMER to the inside of a new hand grip. Remove any excess primer with a clean cloth. Wait two minutes for the primer to set.
  5. Apply LOCTITE 411 PRISM INSTANT ADHESIVE to the inside of the new hand grip.
  6. NOTE
    LOCTITE 411 PRISM INSTANT ADHESIVE will set in four minutes and cure in 24 hours.
  7. Install the new hand grip with a pushing motion until the grip bottoms out.
  8. See Figure 1. To complete the grip install, pull inward on grip from the inward end (A) to make sure the grip is fully seated.
