Service Manual Required
NOTE
This instruction sheet refers to service manual information. A service manual for this year/model motorcycle is required for this installation and is available from a Harley-Davidson dealer.

PREPARATION
NOTE
For vehicles equipped with security siren:
  • Verify that the Hands-Free Fob is present.
  • Turn the ignition key switch to IGNITION.
WARNING
To prevent accidental vehicle start-up, which could cause death or serious injury, remove main fuse before proceeding. (00251b)
  1. Refer to the service manual and follow the instructions to remove the main fuse.
  2. Refer to the service manual and follow the instructions to remove outer fairing and windshield.
  3. Refer to the service manual and follow the instructions to remove the front fairing speakers and adapters.
  4. For models equipped with OE speakers: Save the speaker screws ( Figure 1 , Item 1) for installation.
INSTALLATION
Electra Glide Models
NOTE
Do not remove the plastic grille or mesh from the original equipment (OE) adapter.
1. See Figure 1. Position the Burst speaker grille (5) against the face of the adapter (4) with the thicker edge of the adapter positioned as shown.
2. Position the speaker (3) against the rear face of the adapter as shown.
3. Align the mounting holes in the speaker, adapter and grille. Install the two screws (1) (removed earlier) to secure all three components to the inner fairing through the two top holes.
4. Install screw (2) from the kit in the lower outboard hole, securing the fairing support brace under the screw head. The lower inboard hole is not used.
5. Tighten the lower screw to 2.5–3.2 N·m (22–28 in-lbs). Tighten the upper screws to 4–5.7 N·m (35–50 in-lbs).

6. Repeat Steps 1 through 5 for the remaining speaker then proceed to RETURN TO SERVICE to complete installation.
Electra Glide Models Equipped with BOOM! Audio Kit 77181-10
1. Verify the speaker adapter is modified per the Instruction Sheet in the BOOM! Audio Kit.
2. See Figure 2. Position the Burst speaker grille (7) against the face of the BOOM! speaker grille (5).
3. Follow the BOOM! Audio installation kit procedure to connect the tweeter wires.
4. Align the mounting holes in the speaker, adapter and grille. Install (1) from the kit to secure all three components to the inner fairing through the two top holes.
5. Install screw (2) from the kit in the lower outboard hole, capturing the fairing support brace under the screw head. The lower inboard hole is not used.
6. Tighten the lower screw to 2.5–3.2 N·m (22–28 in-lbs). Tighten the upper screws to 4–5.7 N·m (35–50 in-lbs).

7. Repeat Steps 1 through 6 for the remaining speaker then proceed to RETURN TO SERVICE to complete installation.
RETURN TO SERVICE
NOTE
Before installing the outer fairing, check that speakers are operating correctly, understanding that full sound quality and fidelity will not be achieved until the outer fairing is completely installed.
Verify that the ignition key switch is in the OFF position before installing the main fuse.
  1. Refer to the service manual and follow the instructions to install the main fuse.
  2. Turn the ignition key switch to IGNITION, but do not start the motorcycle.
  3. Refer to the ADVANCED AUDIO SYSTEM section of the owner's manual and turn the radio or CD player ON. Make sure all speakers are working and front/rear fader function is operating correctly. If not, check speaker wiring.
  4. Install the outer fairing and windshield per service manual instructions.
