Installation Requirements
WARNING
Rider and passenger safety depend upon the correct installation of this kit. Use the appropriate service manual procedures. If the procedure is not within your capabilities or you do not have the correct tools, have a Harley-Davidson dealer perform the installation. Improper installation of this kit could result in death or serious injury. (00333b)
NOTE
This instruction sheet refers to service manual information. A service manual for your year/model motorcycle is required for this installation. One is available from a Harley-Davidson dealer.
REMOVE
1. Remove rear axle. See service manual.
2. Figure 1 Discard E-clip (1), rear axle (4), axle cam (3) and cone nut (2).
3. Thoroughly clean swing arm and spacers interfacing with swing arm, keeping them and axle cam faces free from anti-seize contamination.
INSTALL
1. Figure 1 Install new rear axle (4), axle cam (3), cone nut (2) and E-clip (1). See service manual.
2. Adjust drive belt. See service manual.
3. See Figure 2 and Figure 3. Torque cone nut, while preventing rotation of axle cam assembly. Tighten.
a. First torque.
Torque: 20–27 N·m (15–20 ft-lbs)
b. Final torque.
Torque: 183.03–196.6 N·m (135–145 ft-lbs)
4. Check rear wheel end play. See service manual.
5. Install E-clip.
