Installation Requirements
WARNING
Rider and passenger safety depend upon the correct installation of this kit. Use the appropriate service manual procedures. If the procedure is not within your capabilities or you do not have the correct tools, have a Harley-Davidson dealer perform the installation. Improper installation of this kit could result in death or serious injury. (00333b)
NOTE
This instruction sheet references service manual information. A service manual for the year and model motorcycle is required for this installation and is available from:
REMOVE
1. Figure 1 Remove right passenger footpeg (A). See service manual.
a. Remove footpeg plate.
2. Remove heel guard (B). See service manual.
a. Set aside screws (C) for future use.
3. Figure 2 Remove right riders footpeg/brake bracket (D) and screw (E).
a. Only remove screw shown.

INSTALL
1. Figure 3 Install muffler guard (1).
NOTE
Align rear of muffler guard with pre-drilled hole located rear of right passengers footpeg. Some vehicles may have a threaded hole and may not require a nut (8).
a. Position muffler guard on to frame.
b. Install hex socket screw (5). Hand tighten.
c. Install screw (6) and washer (7) through guard and into passenger foot support bracket. Secure with nut (8) if hole is not threaded. Hand tighten.
2. Tighten screws:
a. Hex socket screw (5):
Torque: 48–53 N·m (35–39 ft-lbs)
b. Screw (6):
Torque: 30–33 N·m (22–24 ft-lbs)
3. Figure 4 Install heel guard offset bracket (3).
a. Position heel guard offset bracket.
b. Align counter-sunk holes with footpeg/brake bracket (D) holes for heel guard.
c. Install OE screw (C). Tighten.
Torque: 9–11 N·m (80–97 in-lbs)
4. Figure 5 Install heel guard (B).
a. Position heel guard.
b. Align heel guard with new holes in offset bracket (3).
c. Install screws (4). Tighten.
Torque: 13–14 N·m (115–124 in-lbs)
5. Figure 6 Install new footpeg plate (2).

NOTE
A new footpeg plate can be orientated in a different direction to accommodate different footpeg detent location.
  • OE footpeg:
    1. Position notch toward front of vehicle.
  • 80 Grit footpeg:
    1. Position notch toward rear of vehicle.
