Installation Requirements

WARNING

Do not install these seat kits on motorcycles that are not equipped with an appropriate grab strap and passenger footpegs. If footpegs and grab strap are not installed, passenger could fall from moving motorcycle or grab onto operator, causing loss of control and death or serious injury. (00410b)

WARNING

Rider and passenger safety depend upon the correct installation of this kit. Use the appropriate service manual procedures. If the procedure is not within your capabilities or you do not have the correct tools, have a Harley-Davidson dealer perform the installation. Improper installation of this kit could result in death or serious injury. (00333b)

NOTE

This instruction sheet references service manual information. A service manual for the year and model motorcycle is required for this installation and is available from:

REMOVE

1.	Remove Original Equipment (OE) seat. See service manual.
2.	Remove rear fender cowl and rear fender halves. Discard cowl and retain rear fender halves. See service manual.
3.	Remove rear fender console grommet. Discard.

INSTALL

1.	Figure 2 Install rain guard (1). a. Tighten screws (2). Torque: 20.3 N·m (180 in-lbs)
2.	Install right and left rear fender halves. See service manual.
3.	Figure 3 Install grab strap. a. Remove OE screw (2). Retain. b. Apply threadlocker to screw (2).LOCTITE 243 MEDIUM STRENGTH THREADLOCKER AND SEALANT (BLUE) (99642-97) c. Figure 3 Install grab strap (1), washer (3) and OE screw (2). Tighten. Torque: 4.3–5.2 N·m (38–46 in-lbs)
4.	Figure 4 Install spacer (1).
5.	Figure 5 Install pillion (2) through grab strap (1).
6.	Figure 6 Install washers (2) and two screws (3).
7.	Apply threadlocker to screw (3).LOCTITE 243 MEDIUM STRENGTH THREADLOCKER AND SEALANT (BLUE) (99642-97)
8.	Figure 6 Install washer (1) and screw (3). Tighten. Torque: 11–13.6 N·m (97–120 in-lbs)
9.	Install seat. NOTE Wiggling OE seat back and forth will aid in installation. Some slight force is required. Key may need to be turned so that pin on seat will interact with lock on vehicle. a. Figure 5 Align pillion tabs (3) with OE seat slots (5). b. After installing seat, pull up on seat to verify that it is secure. See service manual.
