1. | While holding the trim rail firmly in place, have an assistant trace the outline of the three mounting pads onto the tape. | |
2. | Remove the trim rail. Mark the center of the three traced circles with a center punch. | |
3. | Drill a 1.6 mm (1/16 in) pilot hole at each mounting point. Enlarge the mounting holes with a 5.5 mm (7/32 in) drill bit. | |
4. | Remove the tape. Lightly sand to remove burrs and sharp edges. NOTE

5. | Install the trim rail to the saddlebag lid with three screws (3), lockwashers (4), flat washers (5) and black nylon washers (7), but do not fully tighten. NOTE The nylon mounting pads and washers should compress only slightly when the screws are properly secured. | |
6. | Alternately tighten the screws to 3.1–3.5 N·m (27–31 in-lbs). | |
7. | Repeat for the opposite side saddlebag lid rail. |
