Installation Requirements
This item can be purchased from a Harley-Davidson dealer:
LOCTITE 243 MEDIUM STRENGTH THREADLOCKER AND SEALANT (BLUE) (11100005) is required for the proper installation of this kit.
WARNING
Rider and passenger safety depend upon the correct installation of this kit. If the procedure is not within your capabilities or you do not have the correct tools, have a Harley-Davidson dealer perform the installation. Improper installation of this kit could result in death or serious injury. (00308b)

REMOVE SADDLEBAG

NOTE
Saddlebag locking mechanism shown is from FLSB, other models are similar.
Remove saddlebags.
a. See Figure 1. Open saddlebag.
b. Pull out and turn lock knob (4) to the unlocked position (5).
c. Close saddlebag outer.
d. See Figure 2. Slide saddlebag rearward to disengage the saddlebag docking rod (4) from the mounting bracket grommet (5).
e. Lift saddlebag away from motorcycle.

INSTALLATION
1. See Figure 3. Remove flag guard screws (1) and flag guard (2).

a. Discard lock nut.
b. Make sure screw assembly remains in place.

4. See Figure 6. Install spacer (1) fully onto lock knob (2).

5. See Figure 7. Place lock knob with spacer (2) assembly onto screw assembly. Make sure the bosses on the spacer engage the slots on the pawl (1).

NOTE
Threadlocker should be a continuous bead running the entire length of the threads.
See Figure 8. Place a bead of threadlocker on the threads of the hex nut (1).LOCTITE 243 MEDIUM STRENGTH THREADLOCKER AND SEALANT (BLUE) (11100005)
7. Install hex nut. Tighten.
Torque: 8.13–10.8 N·m (6–8 ft-lbs) Lock knob hex nut

8. See Figure 4. Install cover (1).
9. See Figure 3. Place threadlocker onto flag guard screws (1).
10. Install flag guard (2) and screws. Tighten.
Torque: 2.7–4 N·m (24–35 in-lbs) Flag guard screw
11. Repeat procedure for other saddlebag.

NOTE

Install saddlebags.
a. See Figure 1. Open saddlebag.
b. Pull out and turn lock knob (4) to the unlocked position (5).
c. See Figure 2. Place saddlebag mounting bracket (2) on mounting studs (3) while aligning the saddlebag docking rod (4) with the mounting bracket grommet (5). Slide saddlebag completely forward.
d. See Figure 1. Rotate lock knob to the locked position (6) until a click is heard. Without pulling out on the knob, verify that knob cannot rotate back to the unlocked position.
e. See Figure 2. Verify the indicator flag is not showing and saddlebag is securely fastened.
f. Close saddlebag.
