Installation Requirements
WARNING
The rider's safety depends upon the correct installation of this kit. Dealer installation is required for vehicles equipped with ABS brakes. Proper installation of this kit requires the use of special tools available only through a Harley-Davidson Dealer. An improperly serviced brake system can adversely affect brake performance, which could result in death or serious injury. (00578b)
WARNING
Rider and passenger safety depend upon the correct installation of this kit. Use the appropriate service manual procedures. If the procedure is not within your capabilities or you do not have the correct tools, have a Harley-Davidson dealer perform the installation. NOTE
The Upper Clutch Cable Kits are available in various cable lengths. Shorter or longer cables may be necessary when modifications (that is, optional handlebars) have been made to the motorcycle. See the Harley-Davidson Genuine Motor Accessories and Genuine Motor Parts Catalog for fitment and length information.
Damage to the clutch cable due to improper handling/installation is not covered under the Harley-Davidson Motor Company Warranty.

PREPARE
WARNING
To prevent accidental vehicle start-up, which could cause death or serious injury, disconnect battery cables (negative (-) cable first) before proceeding. (00307a)
WARNING
Disconnect negative (-) battery cable first. If positive (+) cable should contact ground with negative (-) cable connected, the resulting sparks can cause a battery explosion, which could result in death or serious injury. (00049a)
1. Disconnect the battery or main fuse. See service manual.
REMOVE
1. Record wire routing and cable strap locations before removal.
a. Install new cable straps in the proper locations.
2. Remove clutch cable. See service manual.
INSTALL
1. Install upper clutch cable (1). See service manual.
a. ALL Touring models: Routing of accessory upper clutch cable is to be same as stock routing.
b. Some Softail models: Clutch may need to be routed through triple clamp to ensure clearances.
2. Install stock clutch cable clips (2) onto downtube in their original positions.
3. After installation, follow instructions in the "Final Assembly" and "Clutch Cable Adjustment" sections in the appropriate service manual.

COMPLETE
WARNING
Be sure that steering is smooth and free without interference. Interference with steering could result in loss of vehicle control and death or serious injury. (00371a)
WARNING
Connect positive (+) battery cable first. If positive (+) cable should contact ground with negative (-) cable connected, the resulting sparks can cause a battery explosion, which could result in death or serious injury. (00068a)
1. Check to ensure the steering is smooth, with not interferences or line snap points.
2. Ensure clutch lever works smoothly with minimal effort.
3. Connect battery cables, positive cable first or connect main fuse. See service manual.
