Installation Requirements
WARNING
Rider and passenger safety depend upon the correct installation of this kit. Use the appropriate service manual procedures. If the procedure is not within your capabilities or you do not have the correct tools, have a Harley-Davidson dealer perform the installation. Improper installation of this kit could result in death or serious injury. (00333b)
    These items are available at a Harley-Davidson dealership.
  • All models: Separate purchase of Screamin' Eagle Pro Street Tuner (Part No. 41000008C) for proper operation.
  • 2017-2019: Separate purchase of Oil Pump Assembly kit (Part No. 62400247-Oil Cooled) or (Part No. 62400248-Twin Cooled) is required.
  • 2017-2018 models equipped with 107 base engine: Requires separate purchase of SE High Capacity Clutch kit (37000258).
  • Separate purchase of Screamin' Eagle High Flow Air Cleaner kit.
  • Separate purchase of the Camshaft Drive Retention Kit (Part No. 91800088) is required.
  • Separate purchase of Cam Spacer Kit (Part No. 25928-06) is required.
NOTE
This kit is intended for high-performance applications only. This engine related performance kit is legal for sale or use in California on pollution controlled motor vehicles when installed on models specified. Check with your local Harley-Davidson dealer for compliance requirements in your area.
A partial emissions tune-up label is included with this kit as a requirement of the California Air Resource Board (CARB)/EPA emissions regulation.

This instruction sheet references service manual information. A service manual for the year and model motorcycle is required for this installation and is available from:
PREPARE
WARNING
When servicing the fuel system, do not smoke or allow open flame or sparks in the vicinity. Gasoline is extremely flammable and highly explosive, which could result in death or serious injury. (00330a)
NOTE
See procedures in service manual.
1. Set motorcycle upright.
2. Disarm security system.
3. Remove seat.
4. Remove main fuse.
5. Remove fuel tank.
6. Twin-Cooled: Drain coolant system.
REMOVE
NOTE
The following steps are provided as an outline process. Follow procedures in service manual.
1. Remove air cleaner assembly.
2. Remove exhaust system.
3. Remove induction module.
4. Disconnect harness connections from cylinder head.
5. Remove oil coolant lines and manifolds from engine.
6. Remove rocker covers, rocker arms, pushrods and pushrod tubes.
7. Remove cylinder heads, cylinder and pistons.
8. Remove lifter covers, anti-rotation devices and lifters.
9. Remove cam cover, cam plate and camshaft.
10. Remove oil pump.
11. Remove inner cam bearing.
12. Remove existing clutch spring.
INSTALL
NOTE
The following steps are provided as an outline process. Follow procedures in service manual.
Install Screamin' Eagle High Capacity Clutch kit (37000258) if updating to ten plate clutch. See service manual.
1. See Figure 3. Install camshaft needle bearing (4).
2. Install the oil pump (5). See installation requirements.
3. Install camshaft (3).
4. Verify camshaft to crankshaft timing marks are properly aligned.
5. See Figure 2. Install lifters (5), anti-rotation device, lifter cover gaskets (4) and lifter covers.
6. See Figure 1. Install pistons (1) and cylinders (2). Follow instructions provided with piston and cylinder kit.
7. See Figure 1. Install High Performance Valve Spring kit (5). Follow instructions provided with valve springs.
NOTE
This kit uses a special head torque sequence.
8. Install cylinder heads using new flange nuts (4).
a. Apply engine oil to new cylinder flange nuts only.
b. Verify that only bottom of flange nuts receives lubrication. Do not allow lubrication on cylinder stud or internal threads of flange nuts.
9. Torque flange nuts (4).
a. Torque.
Torque: 27.1–40.6 N·m (20–30 ft-lbs)
b. Loosen one turn.
Angle: -360°
c. Torque.
Torque: 12.2–14.9 N·m (9–11 ft-lbs)
d. Torque.
Torque: 24.2–27.1 N·m (18–20 ft-lbs)
e. Final torque, tighten additional 90°.
10. Install pushrod tubes and pushrods.
11. With piston at approximately Bottom Dead Center (BDC) on power stroke, install rocker arms. Alternately tighten screws to pull rocker shaft down evenly.
12. Install rocker covers onto engine.
13. Install cam cover.
a. Verify camshaft to crankshaft timing marks are properly aligned.
14. Install induction module.
15. Connect wire harness connections to engine and induction module.
16. Install manifolds and coolant lines to cylinder heads.
17. Install exhaust system.
18. Install air cleaner assembly.
19. Install new emissions label.
a. Locate emissions label on frame tube below the handlebars.
b. Place new partial label from kit over top portion of emissions label on frame tube.
COMPLETE
NOTE
See procedures in service manual.
1. Install fuel tank.
2. Install main fuse.
3. Twin-Cooled: Fill coolant system and purge air per service manual instructions.
4. Install seat. After installing seat, pull up on the seat to verify that it is secure.
5. Recalibrate ECM with proper configuration.
