Installation Requirements
WARNING
Rider and passenger safety depend upon the correct installation of this kit. If the procedure is not within your capabilities or you do not have the correct tools, have a LiveWire dealer perform the installation. Improper installation of this kit could result in death or serious injury. (16004a)
PREPARE
Assemble Clamps to Windshield
1. Remove windshield sub-assembly from packaging.
a. Place face down on a clean, soft surface with mount brackets facing upward.
2. See Figure 1. Remove both clamp assemblies (7) and hardware kits (9) from packaging.
a. Separate similar parts in preparation for assembly.
WARNING
The cupped side of the Belleville (cone) washers must face each other and sandwich the windshield mount brackets at each mount point. Failure to orient washers correctly can reduce windshield's ability to break away in a collision, which could result in death or serious injury. (00422b)
3. See Figure 2. Pre-assemble shoulder bolt (1), belleville washer (2), windshield bracket (3), belleville washer (2), cup washer (4) and windshield mount clamp assembly (5, 6) as shown with both belleville washer cup sides facing windshield bracket.
4. Align clamps (5, 6) in approximate mounted position.
5. Tighten shoulder bolts (1).
Torque: 6.8–7.3 N·m (60–65 in-lbs)
NOTE
Do not tighten shoulder bolts beyond recommended torque. Over-torquing may cause clamp to twist on fork slider, yielding clamp jaw. A yielded clamp may not carry a preload on fork slider and cause windshield to come loose during use.

Assemble Upper Mounts to Windshield
1. See Figure 1. Remove both upper windshield post mounts (2), fender washers (3) and screws (5) from packaging.
2. Loosely install upper windshield post mounts (2) and fender washers (3) using screws (5) passing thru grommet and upper mount (6) as shown.
a. Verify that fender washers are located between upper mount post and windshield grommet.
b. Secure finger tight to allow adjustment upon initial installation.
INSTALL
Install Center Windshield Mount
1. See Figure 3. Using T-50 driver, loosen two riser bolts (1) to create a gap between risers and upper fork bracket.
2. See Figure 4. Lift on handlebar assembly and slide center mount (1) into gap as shown.
a. Align profile with riser profile for each riser.
b. Tighten riser bolts
Torque: 47.9–53 N·m (35–39 ft-lbs)

Install Windshield
NOTE
Polycarbonate windshield is fairly flexible and can be bent to spread clamps away from headlamp to ease installation to vehicle. Take care not to scratch headlamp housing with clamps while positioning windshield to fork sliders.
NOTE
Keep front wheel straight to prevent brackets from scratching adjacent components.
1. Make sure clamps are in "open" position.
2. See Figure 5. Bring windshield (with clamp/post side away from you) to front of vehicle.
3. Straddle front fender, center windshield around headlamp, rotate clamps to align with forks and snap clamps closed onto forks.
4. See Figure 1 and Figure 5. Install upper mount (2) ball ends into center mounting bracket (1) snap mounts by pushing firmly on windshield near upper mount grommets.
a. Align windshield so headlamp cut out is concentric with headlamp perimeter.
b. If necessary, adjust clamp position so windshield is aligned properly around headlamp, again snap clamps closed onto forks.
c. Tighten upper mount screws (5).
Torque: 6.8–10.8 N·m (60–96 in-lbs)

WINDSHIELD REMOVAL
1. Unsnap upper mount ball and socket joints by pulling forward on edge of windshield nearest to upper mount grommets.
2. Release clamp mounts on each fork tube by pulling clamp levers outward while securely holding windshield assembly to prevent dropping and possible cosmetic damage.
3. Cover and protect windshield during storage.
When storing windshield, place in a location where windshield clamps will receive greatest protection. Keep away from locations where windshield may be impacted or dropped. Do not stack anything on top of assembly.
Prior to installation after any storage period, inspect clamps and hardware for fastener preload and cleanliness. Each clamp should have a pair of rubber gaskets in clamp saddle that mates to fork slider, and should cycle open and close freely.
CARE AND CLEANING
NOTICE
Polycarbonate windshields/wind deflectors require proper attention and care to maintain. Failure to maintain polycarbonate properly can result in damage to the windshield/wind deflector. (00483e)
  • Do not use benzene, paint thinner, gasoline or any other type of harsh cleaner on the windshield/wind deflector. Doing so damages the surface.
  • Do not clean in hot sun or high temperature.
  • Powdered, abrasive or alkaline cleanser damages the windshield/wind deflector.
  • Sunlight reflections off the inside curvature of a windshield/wind deflector can, at certain times of the day, cause extreme heat build-up on motorcycle instruments. Exercise care in parking. Park facing the sun, place an opaque object over the instruments, or adjust the windshield/wind deflector to avoid reflections.
  • After washing and drying windshield, make sure that windshield is properly installed prior to operating vehicle.
NOTE
Windshield Water Repellent Treatment (Part No. 99841-01) is approved for use on LiveWire polycarbonate windshields/wind deflectors.
