1. See Figure 1. Position the four Velcro® hook strips (2 short and 2 long) onto the corresponding short and long Velcro® loop strips pre-sewn onto the nylon flaps on the airbox cover bra. Center the hook strips on their mating loop strips in front-to-back direction. Align long edge of hook strips with the inside (bra side) edge of the mating sewn-in loop strips so the extra width of the adhesive backed hook strips is away from the bra.

2. Turn ignition key counterclockwise to release seat latch and open seat.
3. Remove Airbox Cover Assembly. Turn Bail-Head Stud securing rear mounting bracket of airbox cover counterclockwise. Lift rear of airbox cover and pull cover rearward to disengage cover guide pins from airbox bracket in front.
4. See Figure 2. Remove Snap Ring, Rubber Washer, and Bail-Head Stud from rear mounting bracket on airbox cover. Save items for assembly.

5. Thoroughly clean airbox cover inside and out, especially the rear half. Dry completely.
Prior to performing the following Step, refer to either the VRSCA Service Manual or Owners Manual for specific waxing procedures. Some waxes are not recommended and can damage the cover?s anodized surface.
6. Wax outside surface of airbox cover being careful not to get any wax on inside surface.
7. Inspect inside surface of Airbox Cover Bra (white fleece material) for dirt or debris that might scratch airbox cover surface. Remove any contaminants.
8. See Figure 3. Install bra on airbox cover as follows:
a. Hold airbox cover upright and slip bra elastic band over front of airbox cover so the band is on the bottom of the cover and the bra is on top.
b. Gently slide bra to the rear of the cover and align the hole in the bra with the mounting hole in the airbox cover rear mounting bracket.
9. Insert bail-head stud through hole in bra and through mounting hole in rear mounting bracket of airbox cover.
10. Insert Rubber Washer saved from Step 4 onto bail-head stud and slide rubber washer up against airbox mounting bracket until hardware is snug. Install Snap Ring onto stud and slide towards mounting bracket until ring snaps into recess on stud.

11. Place airbox cover upside down on a soft or nonmarring surface (to protect airbox cover finish).
12. See Figure 4. Make sure the airbox cover bra nylon side flaps, with the Velcro® strips, are not captured between bra and airbox cover. Stretch bra elastic band towards the inside front of cover and capture it in the space between the inside surface of the airbox cover and the guide pins on the front mounting bracket of airbox cover.
13. Straighten elastic band and make sure it lies flat across the airbox cover guide pin bracket. Also make sure elastic band does not contact the guide pins, as this may cause insufficient engagement of pins when the airbox cover is reinstalled. Straighten airbox cover bra so hemmed edges are even with edges of airbox cover. Again, make sure the nylon Velcro® flaps are not folded under bra (i.e. they are free to wrap around airbox cover edges).

14. Remove backing from the two rear pre-installed Velcro® strips (the longer strips).
15. See Figure 5. Make sure edges of bra are even with airbox cover edges and bra is centered on airbox cover. Wrap rear (longer) Velcro® flaps around edges of cover. While pulling tight on right and left flaps, adhere adhesive side of Velcro® to the surface of the airbox cover internal frame. Be careful when pulling tight not to pull too hard in the forward direction, as the bra mounting hole could become elongated.

16. Repeat steps 14 and 15 for the front (shorter) Velcro® flaps.
17. Press firmly on Velcro® strips (all four locations) along entire length of each strip to activate or "set" the adhesive.
18. See Figure 6. Turn airbox cover over and check alignment of bra on cover. If bra is not centered, disengage Velcro® flaps from mating Velcro®, adjust bra, and re-engage Velcro®.

19. Install airbox cover onto motorcycle by holding at a slight angle while engaging the two guide pins on front inside airbox cover bracket with the two holes with rubber isolators installed on the frame in front of airbox.
20. Rotate rear of airbox cover down, engage bail-lock stud into the mounting hole, and twist clockwise until it locks.
21. Close and latch seat. Pull up on latch side of seat to verify it is locked.
After installing seat, pull upward on seat to be sure it is locked in position. While riding, a loose seat can shift causing loss of control, which could result in death or serious injury. (00070b)
