Installation Requirements
E-CLIP TOOL (Part Number:HD-52369) to remove E-clips without damaging painted surfaces.
WARNING
Rider and passenger safety depend upon the correct installation of this kit. Use the appropriate service manual procedures. If the procedure is not within your capabilities or you do not have the correct tools, have a Harley-Davidson dealer perform the installation. Improper installation of this kit could result in death or serious injury. (00333b)
NOTE
This instruction sheet references service manual information. A service manual for your model motorcycle is required for this installation and is available from a Harley-Davidson dealer.
INSTALLATION
1.
See Figure 1. Your model motorcycle is equipped with a pin (4) and retaining clip (2), remove them and retain for future use. Save all hardware, including torsion spring (1), for installation of the new footpegs (3).
2.
See Figure 1.Insert short leg of torsion spring (1) into hole in new footpeg (3). Align long leg of torsion spring (1) to hole in footpeg mount and insert. Rotate footpeg (3) into position in clevis and insert pin (4) through clevis, footpeg (3) and spring (1). Install retaining clip (2). Repeat on other side.
NOTE
See Figure 2. When performing the next step, verify that the spring is positioned inside of the footpeg.
3.
See Figure 3. Adjust orientation as follows:
a.
For forward controls, foot surface to be parallel to the mounting pin.
b.
For mid controls, foot surface to be parallel to ground.
c.
Tighten adjustment screw.
Torque: 29 N·m (21 ft-lbs) Adjusting screw
Wear Tip Replacement
1.
See Figure 4. Remove existing wear tip from footpeg.
2.
Apply 2 or 3 drops of Loctite 243 Threadlocker and Sealant (Blue) to the threads of the new wear tip and install to the footpeg.
3.
Tighten wear tip to:
Torque: 19–22 N·m (14–16 ft-lbs) Wear tip
