If the procedure is not within your capabilities or you do not have the correct tools, have a Harley-Davidson dealer perform the installation. INSTALLATION
Remove Original Equipment (OE) Exhaust Shields
- Allow the motorcycle to cool.
- Record the position of the OE band clamp screws securing the exhaust shields to the exhaust pipes.
- See Figure 1. Loosen intermediate shield (A) clamps (B).
- Open the five band clamps (C) Securing the front and rear shields. Spread the bands and remove exhaust shields from the exhaust.
- Transfer the band clamps (C) to the new exhaust shields (1, 2) in the orientation recorded during removal.
Install New Exhaust Shields
| 1. | See Figure 1. Install the shields on the exhaust pipes. Tighten the band clamps enough to hold the exhaust shields in place. | |
| 2. | Adjust the shields and band clamps to avoid contact with other components. | |
| 3. | Tighten all clamp screws. | |
NOTICE Wipe all fingerprints off of exhaust system components after installation and before starting engine. Oil from hands can leave permanent marks on exhaust system finish. (00346a) | ||
| 4. | Wipe off all fingerprints. Oil from hands will burn permanently into finish. |
