1. | Remove saddlebags per the service manual. | |
2. | See Figure 1. Loosen original equipment (OE) muffler clamp (1). | |
3. | See Figure 2. Remove and retain OE bolts (1) and lockwashers (2). | |
4. | Remove OE muffler. Discard muffler and clamp. | |
5. | Install new muffler clamp on inlet end of new muffler. Slide muffler onto exhaust pipe. | |
6. | Secure rear of muffler to sliding bracket with OE bolts and lockwashers. Do not fully tighten bolts now. | |
7. | Position sliding bracket so rubber mount (3) is at center of bracket. | |
8. | Tighten bolts (1) to 19–24.4 N·m (14–18 ft-lbs). | |
9. | See Figure 1. Position front muffler clamp as shown so clamp bolt and nut are vertical. | |
10. | Tighten clamp nut to 51.5–58.3 N·m (38–43 ft-lbs). | |
| NOTICE Wipe all fingerprints off of exhaust system components after installation and before starting engine. Oil from hands can leave permanent marks on exhaust system finish. (00346a) |
11. | Wipe exhaust system clean. | |
12. | Repeat steps 2-11 for the opposite side. | |
13. | Start engine and check for exhaust leaks. | |
14. | Install saddlebags per the service manual. | |
