This instruction sheet refers to service manual information. A service manual for your year/model motorcycle is required for this installation. One is available from a Harley-Davidson dealer.

Disconnecting spark plug cable with engine running can result in electric shock and death or serious injury. (00464b)

PREPARE

Remove seat. See service manual.
Remove fuel tank. See service manual.

REMOVAL

1.	Locate spark plug cable straps and cut open.
2.	NOTE Remove cable by pulling on rubber boot only. Do not pull on cable or damage can result. Pull and twist simultaneously to remove rubber boot. See Figure 1. Disconnect boots (1-4) from coil.
3.	See Figure 2. Disconnect boots (6-9) from engine using HD-52006 (Adjustable Spark Plug Wire Puller).
4.	Remove spark plug cables.
5.	NOTE Make note of cable strap locations. The earlier touring vehicles may have not been equipped with the latest update for cable straps. See Figure 2. Remove and discard cable straps.

INSTALLATION

1.	See Figure 5. Apply dielectric grease (6) to the insides of the coil (A) and spark plug boots (B).
2.	See Figure 1 and Figure 2 Connect and route new spark plug cables. a. Figure 4Right cable: Route front cable through caddy retainers (2). b. Figure 3Left cable: Secure anchored cable straps (3) to frame backbone.
3.	See Figure 2. Install cable straps. a. Item 3, push into frame locations and loosely tie down cable. b. Item 4, clamp to coolant line and loosely tie down cable. c. Item 5, remove existing push-in clip, push new cable strap and loosely tie down cable.
4.	Adjust spark plug cables and tighten cable straps.
5.	NOTE Adjust spark plug boots to avoid contact with fuel tank. Install fuel tank. See service manual.
6.	Install seat. After installing seat, pull up on the seat to verify that it is secure. See service manual.
