Installation Requirements
WARNING
Rider and passenger safety depend upon the correct installation of this kit. Use the appropriate service manual procedures. If the procedure is not within your capabilities or you do not have the correct tools, have a Harley-Davidson dealer perform the installation. Improper installation of this kit could result in death or serious injury. (00333b)
NOTE
This instruction sheet references service manual information. A service manual for the year and model motorcycle is required for this installation and is available from:

  • Kit requires Electronic Control Module (ECM) recalibration. Contact a Harley-Davidson dealership.
  • 2023-later CVO Street Glide (FLHXSE), CVO Road Glide (FLTRXSE): Require separate purchase of Part Numbers 18400117, 25400103 and 25566-06.
  • 2024-later CVO Road Glide ST (FLTRXSTSE): Require separate purchase of Part Numbers 18400117, 25400103 and 25566-06.
PREPARE
1. Set motorcycle upright. See service manual.
2. Disarm security system. See service manual.
3. Remove seat. See service manual.
4. Remove main fuse. See service manual.
5. Remove fuel tank. See service manual.
6. Liquid-Cooled Cylinder Heads with Center Position Radiator: Drain coolant system.
REMOVE
NOTE
The following steps are provided as an outline process. Follow procedures in service manual.
1. Remove air cleaner assembly.
2. Remove exhaust system.
3. Remove induction module.
4. Disconnect harness connections from cylinder head.
5. Disconnect coolant hoses from cylinder heads.
6. Remove rocker covers, rocker arms, pushrods, and pushrod tubes.
7. Remove cylinder heads, cylinder and pistons.
8. Remove lifter covers, anti-rotation devices and lifters.
9. Remove camshaft cover, camshaft plate and camshaft.
Models with VVT
NOTE
Models with VVT require separate purchase of Part Numbers 18400117, 25400103 and 25566-06
1. Remove camshaft cover. Outer cover, solenoid sensor can remain on cover.
2. Rotate engine to align crank and camshaft timing dots.
3. Remove camshaft chain tensioner.
4. Remove crank sprocket nut using crankshaft/camshaft sprocket locking tool between crankshaft and phaser sprockets.

Special Tool: CRANKSHAFT/CAMSHAFT SPROCKET LOCKING TOOL (HD-47941)

a. Remove tool.
5. Remove phaser center bolt using camshaft torque reaction tool to hold phaser rotor.

Special Tool: CAM TORQUE REACTION TOOL (HD-53289)

a. Use thin walled 22 mm socket to loosen bolt while holding tool on the 36 mm hex.
NOTE
DO NOT use sprocket locking or impact tool as this will damage the phaser.
6. Remove phaser, chain and crank sprocket.
7. Remove camshaft plate.
8. Remove camshaft.
INSTALL
NOTE
The following steps are provided as an outline process. Follow procedures in service manual.
1. Install oil pump.
2. Install new camshaft into engine.
3. Assemble camshaft plate and camshaft drive.
4. Verify camshaft to crankshaft timing marks are properly aligned.
5. Install new lifters, anti-rotation device, new lifter cover gaskets and lifter covers.
6. Install new pistons and new cylinders provided in kit. Follow instructions provided with piston and cylinder kit.
NOTE
This kit uses a special head torque sequence.
7. Install new cylinder heads using new flange nuts included with kit. Follow instructions provided with cylinder head kit.
8. Install pushrod tubes and pushrod new O-rings.
9. With piston at approximately Bottom Dead Center (BDC) on power stroke, install rocker arms.
10. Alternately tighten screws to pull rocker shaft down evenly.
11. Install rocker covers.
12. Verify that camshaft to crankshaft timing marks are properly aligned.
NOTE
Make sure to reuse and install camshaft sensor in the cover.
13. Install camshaft cover and new gasket provided in kit.
14. Connect camshaft sensor wire harness.
a. For VVT models: Camshaft solenoid to remain intact and connected.
15. Prepare new induction module for installation. See instructions included with induction module.
16. Install new high flow fuel injectors.
17. Install new induction module.
18. Connect coolant hoses to cylinder heads.
NOTE
Touring models require use of new exhaust header provided in kit or Screamin' Eagle High-Flow Exhaust System with Street Cannon Mufflers.
19. Install exhaust system.
20. Install air cleaner assembly. See instruction sheet included with separately purchased SE high flow air cleaner kit.
COMPLETE
1. Install fuel tank. See service manual.
2. Install main fuse. See service manual.
3. Liquid-Cooled Cylinder Heads with Center Position Radiator: Fill coolant system and purge air. See service manual.
4. Install seat. After installing seat, pull up on the seat to verify that it is secure. See service manual.
5. Calibrate ECM with proper calibration for configuration. See dealer for details.
6. Run motorcycle until engine is at normal operating temperature. Repeat several times to verify proper operation.
