Installation Requirements
Separate purchase of a Solo Spring Saddle is required for proper installation of this kit. See a Harley-Davidson dealer, the P&A retail catalog or the Parts and Accessories section of www.harley-davidson.com (English only) for available saddles.
WARNINGRider and passenger safety depend upon the correct installation of this kit.
If the procedure is not within your capabilities or you do not have the correct tools, have a Harley-Davidson dealer perform the installation.
Improper installation of this kit could result in death or serious injury. (00308b)
INSTALLATION
| 1. | Follow owner's manual instructions to remove the currently installed seat. | |||||||||||||||||||
| 2. | See Figure 2. Position the frame cover (9) to cover the seat pan. Secure the cover to the frame with the push-in fastener (4). | |||||||||||||||||||
| 3. | Install each seat spring (2) to the spring saddle mounting bracket (1) as shown, with one screw (3) from the kit. Tighten the screws to 34–41 N·m (25–30 ft-lbs). | |||||||||||||||||||
| 4. | Install the spring saddle mounting bracket to the frame: a. Remove two TORX® button head screws (B) and washers (C) from the rear of the seat pan area where the spring saddle mounting bracket (1) will be mounted. Save the washers for later installation. The screws can be recycled or properly disposed of. b. Install the mounting bracket to the frame over the frame cover. Align the frame cover so that it is retained by the mounting bracket when secured. c. Secure the left side of the mounting bracket to the frame and top of the electrical caddy with a new hex head screw (7), the original equipment (OE) washer (C) removed earlier, and the spacer (8) from the kit. Do not fully tighten. d. Secure the right side of the mounting bracket to the frame and battery tray with a hex head screw (7) and OE washer (C). e. Tighten the mounting bracket screws to 10.8–13.6 N·m (96–120 in-lbs). | |||||||||||||||||||
| 5. | Install the saddle pivot bracket (10) to the saddle with three washers (15) and screws (5). Tighten the screws to 5.5–8 N·m (48–72 in-lbs). | |||||||||||||||||||
| 6. | See Figure 1. Remove the rear fuel tank mounting screw (2), washers (3), nut (8) and thread protector (7). Save the washers for later installation. The remaining fasteners can be recycled or properly disposed of. |

| 7. | Install the saddle (1) and pivot bracket (9) to the frame and fuel tank: a. Install bushings (5) into the pivot bracket from the inside. b. Install the pivot bracket over the rear fuel tank mounting point (6). c. Install an OE washer (3) and a sleeve spacer (4) from the kit onto screw (2). Insert the screw through the right side of the pivot bracket, bushing (5) and rear fuel tank mounting point (6), through the second bushing (5) and the left side of the pivot bracket. d. Secure the screw with a sleeve spacer (4), OE washer (3) and nut (8). Tighten the nut and screw to 20–27 N·m (15–20 ft-lbs). e. Install the thread protector cap (7) over the screw threads. | |||||||||||||||||||
| 8. | See Figure 2. Secure the saddle (A) to the springs (2). Seats with 1/2 in hole: secure with screws (3). Tighten the screws to 34–41 N·m (25–30 ft-lbs). Seats with 3/8 in hole: secure with screws (17) and spacers (16). Tighten the screws to 14–16 N·m (120–144 in-lbs). | |||||||||||||||||||
| 9. | Complete seat installation. After installing seat, pull up on the seat to verify that it is secure. |
