This kit is not compatible with a Tour-Pak® Spoiler (Part No. 53149-xxxx) or a previously installed Tour-Pak Lid Organizer (Part No. 53249-01A or 53249-01B).
Installation Requirements
Silicone sealant, a drill and various small bits, masking tape, a grease pencil in a color other than the Tour-Pak, and a soft lead pencil will be needed to install this kit.
Kit Contents
See Figure 1 and Table 1.
INSTALLATION
1. Open the lid, and remove all loose contents from the Tour-Pak.
2. See Figure 1. Cut the four mounting pads (6) and washers (5) from the mounting pad and washer set (4).
NOTE
The runner connecting the pads and washers can be recycled or properly disposed of.
3. Place a black mounting pad (6) onto each of the mounting legs (A) of the Tour-Pak Lid Rack (1). With the narrow ends of the rails to the rear, position the rack on the Tour-Pak lid in the desired location.
NOTE
Carefully center the rack from left to right, and position the rack squarely on the lid for best appearance. Do not position the rack too far forward to avoid contact with the backrest pad.
4. Apply masking tape (D) to the Tour-Pak lid, under each of the four mounting pads. Trace around each mounting pad on the masking tape strips. Remove the rack.
5. Mark the exact center position of each mounting pad on the tape.
6. Drill four 1.5 mm (1/16 in) diameter pilot holes through the masking tape and Tour-Pak lid at the four locations marked (C). Enlarge the mounting holes with a 7 mm (9/32 in) drill bit.
7. Remove the tape. Lightly sand to remove burrs and sharp edges.
NOTE
  • Clean the inside and outside lid surfaces of debris, markings and tape residue with a 50-50 mixture of isopropyl alcohol and distilled water. Allow to dry thoroughly.
  • Apply a small amount of silicone sealant between the underside of the Tour-Pak lid and the plastic washers, and around the screw threads to prevent water leakage.
  • Brace or tie the Tour-Pak lid securely in the open position during rack installation to prevent hand or finger injury, or scratching of the Tour-Pak lid finish.
8. Obtain the four hex head cap screws (2), flat washers (3) and plastic washers (5) from the kit. Place first a metal washer, then a plastic washer over the threads of each screw.
9. Lift the Tour-Pak lid and secure in the full open position. Position the rack over the holes in the lid. Install the screw and washer assemblies (with the silicone sealant) through the holes in the Tour-Pak lid and into the rack mounting pads, but do not fully tighten at this time.
10. Tighten all four luggage rack screws evenly and securely to 6.8–9.5 N·m (60–84 in-lbs).

NOTE
Maximum Tour-Pak lid rack weight capacity is 4.5 kg (10 lb).
WARNING
Do not exceed luggage rack weight capacity. Too much weight can cause loss of control, which could result in death or serious injury. (00373a)
NOTE
Combined load of lid rack and Tour-Pak must not exceed:
  • 11.3 kg (25 lb) for 2008 and earlier models.
  • 13.6 kg (30 lb) for 2009 and later models.
WARNING
Do not exceed Tour-Pak weight capacity. Too much weight can cause loss of control, which could result in death or serious injury. (00401c)
  • Be sure lid rack cargo is secure and will not shift while riding. Recheck load periodically.
  • Items with a large surface area mounted on the lid rack can adversely affect vehicle handling.
