Installation Requirements
The help of an assistant will aid in the connection of the edge lights to the vehicle wiring.
WARNING
Rider and passenger safety depend upon the correct installation of this kit. Use the appropriate service manual procedures. If the procedure is not within your capabilities or you do not have the correct tools, have a Harley-Davidson dealer perform the installation. Improper installation of this kit could result in death or serious injury. (00333b)
NOTE
This instruction sheet refers to service manual information. A service manual for this year/model motorcycle is required for this installation and is available from a Harley-Davidson dealer.
ELECTRICAL OVERLOAD
NOTICE
It is possible to overload the vehicle's charging system by adding too many electrical accessories. If the combined electrical accessories operating at any one time consume more electrical current than the vehicle's charging system can produce, the electrical consumption can discharge the battery and cause damage to the vehicle's electrical system. (00211d)
WARNING
When installing any electrical accessory, be certain not to exceed the maximum amperage rating of the fuse or circuit breaker protecting the affected circuit being modified. Exceeding the maximum amperage can lead to electrical failures, which could result in death or serious injury. (00310a)
This fairing edge light kit requires up to 390 mA additional current from the electrical system.
Kit Contents
See Figure 5 and Table 1.
PREPARATION
NOTE
For vehicles equipped with security siren: Verify that the hands-free fob is present. Turn the ignition key switch to IGNITION.
WARNING
To prevent accidental vehicle start-up, which could cause death or serious injury, remove main fuse before proceeding. (00251b)
  1. See the service manual to remove the main fuse.
  2. Turn ignition key switch OFF unless already done.
INSTALLATION
Applying the Edge Lights
NOTE
  • Ambient temperature should be between 21 °C (70 °F) and 38 °C (100 °F) for proper adhesion of the edge lights to the outer fairing. Do not apply below 10 °C (50 °F)
  • Allow AT LEAST 24 hours after applying the edge lights before exposing the area to vigorous washing, strong water spray or extreme weather.
  • The adhesive bond will increase to maximum strength after about 72 hours at normal room temperature.
1. See Figure 1. Test-fit the edge lights to the outer fairing before installation. Do not remove the liner until ready to apply the light strips.

2. Clean the outer fairing side edges with a 50-50 mixture of isopropyl alcohol and distilled water. Allow to dry completely.
3. See Figure 2. With the wiring exiting the lower end of the strip, position a light strip on the fairing as shown. Do not remove the adhesive backing at this time.
NOTE
The leading edge of the edge light assembly closely follows the fairing shape transition along the dashed line, as shown.
Figure 2. Fairing Edge Lights, Placement
4. Allow the light strip to seek its best fit position along the curving surface. Hold or temporarily tape the strip in this location.
5. Pivot the adjustable air deflector (2, if installed). Verify that the light strip does not interfere with movement. Reposition the strip slightly if necessary, and mark the final location with tape or a contrasting colored grease pencil. Make sure to mark the fairing surface at both ends of the light strip.
6. Remove about 1/3 of the liner from the adhesive backing at the upper end of the light strip. Carefully position the light strip aligning the strip with the references on the fairing. Slowly press the light strip into place while exposing more of the adhesive backing, keeping the strip aligned with the guide references.
7. Apply sliding pressure along the entire length of the light strip, making sure of a good bond.
8. Repeat on the opposite side of the fairing, making sure to align the top edge of the light strips on each side.
Connecting the Edge Lights
1. See Figure 5. Get the jumper harness (4), cable straps (5) and socket terminal housings (3) from the kit.
NOTE
Protect the outer fairing finish from damage by covering the work surface with H-D Service Covers or clean shop towels.
2. See the service manual to remove outer fairing
3. See Figure 3. Drill a wire routing hole through the outer fairing as shown.
a. Gently hold the wires out of the way.
b. Cover the underside of the outer fairing with a 2 in (51 mm) wide band of masking tape where the wires exit the light strip.
c. Mark the location for the hole as shown.
d. Drill a 1/8 in pilot hole.
e. Enlarge the hole from the outside of the fairing using a 5/16 in drill. Remove tape.
11.25 in (31.75 mm)
20.25 in (6.35 mm)

4. Support the wires at the end of the light strip and route them through the hole.
5. Insert the wires and socket terminals into the connector housings per the Tyco/AMP connector section of the service manual:
a. Insert Orange/White wire into Cavity 1.
b. Insert Black wire into Cavity 2.
6. Repeat steps for the opposite side.
7. See Figure 4. Obtain the jumper harness. Remove and discard the dust cover from the Accessory Connector {299A} (1) and plug in the jumper harness (2).

8. When viewed from the front, route the short leg of the jumper harness down the left side of the fairing wiring harness. Route the long leg of the jumper harness down the right side of the fairing wiring harness.
9. Secure jumper harness to exsting wiring harness with cable straps (3).
10. Bring the outer fairing near to its installed position.
11. Plug in the right and left edge lights to the jumper harness (4).
12. Plug the headlamp connector into the back of the headlamp.
13. Partially install the outer fairing per the service manual by starting the three screws with flat washers just below the windshield.
14. See the service manual to install the main fuse.
15. Test the operation of the light strips. The strips should illuminate with the ignition key switch in the IGNITION or ACCESSORY position.
16. Complete the outer fairing installation per the service manual.
