Installation Requirements
WARNING
Rider and passenger safety depend upon the correct installation of this kit. If the procedure is not within your capabilities or you do not have the correct tools, have a Harley-Davidson dealer perform the installation. Improper installation of this kit could result in death or serious injury. (00308b)
NOTE
This instruction sheet refers to service manual information. A service manual for this year/model motorcycle is available from a Harley-Davidson dealer.

INSTALLATION
Touring Models WITHOUT Rider Backrest
1. See the owner's manual to remove the seat. Retain all seat mounting hardware.
2. See Figure 1. Remove nuts (A) from stud plate. Save for installation.
NOTE
Remove one nut and plastic washer at a time to prevent stud plate from dropping, making it difficult to access.
3. Remove a plastic washer (B) from one of the studs. Pull the backing paper away from one end of the protective tape (2) as shown. Begin applying the tape to the rear fender, aligned with both studs but affixed only to the fender surrounding the first stud. See arrow. Install the plastic washer onto the stud over the protective tape.
4. Repeat with the remaining plastic washer and stud.
5. Install the grab rail (1) onto the studs. Install nuts (A). Tighten to 6.8–10.8 N·m (5–8 ft-lbs).
Touring Models WITH Rider Backrest
1. See the owner's manual to remove the seat. Retain all seat mounting hardware.
2. See Figure 1. Remove nuts (A) from stud plate. Save for installation.
NOTE

3. Remove a plastic washer (B) from one of the studs. Pull the backing paper away from one end of the protective tape (2) as shown. Begin applying the tape to the rear fender, aligned with both studs but affixed only to the fender surrounding the first stud. See arrow. Install the plastic washer onto the stud over the protective tape.
4. Repeat with the remaining plastic washer and stud.
5. Install the grab rail onto the studs. Install the backrest onto the studs. Loosely install the first nut onto the stud over the backrest.
6. Install nuts (A). Tighten both nuts to 6.8–10.8 N·m (5–8 ft-lbs).
Trike Models
1. See the owner's manual to remove the seat. Retain all seat mounting hardware.
2. Remove two bolts holding the original equipment (OE) grab rail. Save for installation.
3. Remove and discard the OE grab rail.
4. Place the new grab rail onto the vehicle frame, aligning the holes.
5. Install the grab rail with the OE bolts. Tighten to 6.8–10.8 N·m (5–8 ft-lbs).
COMPLETION
WARNING
After installing seat, pull upward on seat to be sure it is locked in position. While riding, a loose seat can shift causing loss of control, which could result in death or serious injury. (00070b)
